For the past two months, PortsToronto’s Works and Environmental Services Department has been dredging the Keating Channel in order to address backlog dredging and help reduce flooding risks in the Port Lands. Each year, thousands of tonnes of sediment build up in the area where the Don River empties into the Keating Channel. If not removed, this build-up could cause the river to back up and flood. Allan Seymour, our Director, Works and Environmental Services Department explains how the dredging process works and why this operation is important to Toronto’s Harbour.

Today our Vice President, Airport, Warren Askew C.M. took part in a panel discussion featuring other airport leaders and environmental experts on “The airport of tomorrow, an environmental perspective” at the 2024 Airbus Sustainability Conference in Washington D.C.
Had a great time speaking with an engaged audience at the 2024 Airbus Sustainability Conference. Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport is on the leading edge when it comes to #clean #green #quiet operations that is community focused. Now is the time to start thinking about how the Airport continues to support the needs of #Toronto and #Canada in the region in a way that continues the legacy of responsible growth. #Infrastructure #aviation #clean #green #quiet #airports #responsible #community #sustainable

This Remembrance Day we remember and honour those who bravely served our nation and sacrificed for freedom – including the incredible 77 permanent Toronto Harbour Commission (THC) staff who enlisted in the First World War, including ten who made the ultimate sacrifice and lost their lives in the name of freedom. To these brave individuals, and all others who fought for our country, we owe a great debt of gratitude. #Lestweforget #CanadaRemembers

Improving the passenger journey is a wholistic approach to making air travel more efficient. In the context of business, this is making transportation in and out of our major centres as seamless as possible. Minutes are valuable in businesses, they truly are money. And shaving minutes off the movements of business travellers is an important aspect of making our urban centres competitive from a global trade perspective and our airport journeys seamless. Great piece by Laura Dawson at Future Borders Coalition on the need for a supportive policy environment and continued investment in technology and infrastructure. Governments on both sides of the border and industry must work together to anticipate problems and maximize efficiencies wherever possible. DYK - When Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (PortsToronto) preclearance becomes fully operational in fall of 2025, GTA will be home to the only two global preclearance facilities in Canada, two of only 15 in the world. Nice to see many PortsToronto vessels making cameo appearances in this Global News clip of our friends at WaterWays TV interviewing Premier Doug Ford on Canadian ports and their importance to international trade. The Port of Toronto welcomes about 200 ships, carrying more than 2,3 million metric tonnes of goods that support industries in the GTA such as construction or food and beverage, and generates more than $463 million in economic activity in Ontario each year. And that’s not including the impact of our thriving Great Lakes cruise ship business that creates jobs in Ontario and brings thousands of tourists to our shores each year to take in all that Toronto and region have to offer. PortsToronto is also responsible for ensuring safe navigation for vessels in the Toronto Harbour, which is why you may have spotted our Brutus and Iron Guppy vessels in the background of this clip our on Harbour Cleanup duty, clearing navigational hazards and debris in order to keep our Harbour safe for all boaters.
