This summer’s heavy rains severely impacted our nature sanctuaries, flooding crucial areas like Cootes Paradise Marsh and Hendrie Valley, affecting countless at-risk species. We’ve been working hard to repair the damage, but we need your support. Your donation will help us restore these habitats and protect vulnerable species, such as rare freshwater mussels and turtles. Together, we can keep our lands a safe haven for wildlife. Donate today at secure.rbg.ca/donate/q/36

A huge thank you to our incredible team who recently assisted us in establishing our American Chestnut mini-seed orchard. Senior Ecologist Sarah Richer would like to extend special thanks to volunteers John Hall, Chad Hills, Peter Morley, Margaret and Ross Plant, Danny Stone, and her Species at Risk assistant, Jack Robinson. Together, we dug holes, pounded T-bars, planted saplings, watered, deployed rodent guards, bunny browse guards, and deer exclosures. We tore up countless pieces of cardboard, layered it, spread mulch, and sealed enclosures—all with wheelbarrows, shovels, and plenty of determination. If all goes as planned, in 10-12 years, these saplings will begin producing nuts that can be grown into new trees, contributing to the restoration of this remarkable at risk species and enhancing the biodiversity of our natural lands.

Check out our latest blog post: "Marsh Status Review: Cootes Paradise and Grindstone Marsh 1994-2022". This in-depth review summarizes decades of ongoing recovery efforts in the RBG marsh areas as part of the Hamilton Harbour Area of Concern. While about one-third of the habitat has recovered, challenges like poor water quality continue to limit the full restoration of these ecosystems. Notably, species such as the Bald Eagle, Trumpeter Swan, and Gray Treefrog have made a comeback, highlighting the importance of ongoing conservation efforts.

Friday night's Movie Night fundraiser in support of RBG's Green Angels subsidy program was a hoot! 🦉 A big thank you to Greening Media for capturing the evening, our presenting sponsor Leggat Auto Group, movie sponsor Patricia Isbister, and popcorn sponsor Giannetti Electric Ltd. for making it all possible!
Tonight's annual movie night at the Royal Botanical Gardens featured Migration, a heartwarming cartoon about birds flying south for winter, with live birds on display—because why just watch them when you can meet them too? The event supported the Green Angels program, generously sponsored by our client, Leggat Auto Group!
