We had a BIG ↔️ visitor to Seaspan's Vancouver Drydock, the DBL 185 oil barge and Dublin Sea tug, which together are known as an ATB - Articulated Tug Barge. After 6 weeks docked in North Van, this project marked one of our largest of the year, which included: ✅ Prep and painting of both the barge & tug's hulls, decks, and ballast tanks ✅ Mechanical work including renewal of both rudder/rudder stocks to new design & type ✅ Regulatory survey items 📹: Sherwin-Williams Protective & Marine Coatings

Shipbuilding is an art, and no one better personifies that than Dylan Humphreys, Sandblaster and Painter at Vancouver Shipyards. A talented artist outside of the shipyard, Dylan also brings those intricate skills to work with him every day. At Seaspan, Dylan paints (often freehand) many of the recognizable emblems and signs on the ships that we're building, including the iconic maple leaf on the Canadian Coast Guard/Garde côtière canadienne's CCGS Naalak Nappaaluk 🍁. Swipe through to sample some of Dylan's Seaspan-related artwork, and read more about his professional journey on our website: https://lnkd.in/g-fsgJiB

Over 100 Seaspan employees from across Victoria and the Lower Mainland came together to clean up over 2 km of shoreline this year at our 2024 Shoreline Cleanup, removing over 80 kg of trash and debris from Tsawwassen Beach and Fort Rodd Hill National Historic Site. Co-hosted by our Environment team and our VAMOS Employee Group, volunteers at the Lower Mainland cleanup were also treated to a delicious paella prepared by the Paella Guys after the cleanup. Volunteers at the Lower Mainland cleanup also received thanks from the Tsawwassen First Nation for helping keep their traditional territory clean. For nearly 20 years, Seaspan employees and their families have proudly cared for BC’s shorelines. Thank you to all of this year’s volunteers for your support and demonstrating Care for the environment and our communities!

We are excited to share that Seaspan Energy’s first LNG bunkering vessel, the Seaspan Garibaldi (Nch’kay), has been delivered and is currently sailing to Vancouver. The Garibaldi will take first cargo and finalize commissioning in Vancouver before its first ship-to-ship bunkering in Long Beach, where Seaspan will provide Simultaneous Operations to bunker a series of vessels. Following its first bunkering, the Seaspan Garibaldi will continue to provide low-carbon solutions to vessels on the West Coast of North America and will soon be joined by Seaspan Energy’s second LNG bunkering vessel, the Seaspan Lions (Ch’ich’iyúy Elxwíkn).

“The marine industry is very dynamic, so you need to be willing to learn and adapt. You never get bored, that’s for sure! I don’t see myself working anywhere else.” Located in North Vancouver’s aptly named Shipyards District, the Vancouver Drydock is a fast-paced repair yard that focuses on regular maintenance and repair on a wide range of vessels, including Canadian Coast Guard ships, BC Ferries, and fishing vessels. The drydock employs over 200 people, including Wisam Jarmakani, Superintendent at Vancouver Drydock. Get to know Wisam as he shares his favourite aspects of his role, along with his love for the dynamic nature of the ship building and ship repair industry.
