September 30th, 2024 marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation in Canada. This federal statutory holiday offers an important opportunity to reflect on the intergenerational harm that residential schools inflicted upon Indigenous families and communities. Today, we honour the survivors and those who continue to be affected by this injustice. At SMCC, we are committed to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion within sponsorship marketing and supporting reconciliation efforts. We encourage our members, volunteers, and followers to take time today to learn about our collective past and how we can all contribute to building a more inclusive future for Indigenous communities in Canada. To show your support and participate in reconciliation, follow the hashtags #ReconciliACTION, #OrangeShirtDay, and #EveryChildMatters. We also urge you to explore resources provided by the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation, the Gord Downie & Chanie Wenjack Fund, and the Orange Shirt Society. For an Indigenous Ally Toolkit created by the Montreal Indigenous Community NETWORK, please visit the DE&I Resource page on the SMCC website. Today, let’s all take meaningful steps toward reconciliation. Every Child Matters. 🧡
