As fertilizer producers look to meet rising global demand for their products, the need for reliable and cost-efficient operations become even more crucial. Yet at the same time, the critical process-based solutions that create the backbone to these operations are frequently subjected to significant stresses such as handling abrasive and/or corrosive substances or operating under extreme operating conditions that lead to increased wear. With these challenges in mind, it is essential to keep process equipment in peak working condition, says Warren Chung, P.Eng. of Solex Thermal Science. In the September 2024 issue of World Fertilizer magazine, Chung argues it is not just a best practice but a necessity for fertilizer producers to implement robust preventative maintenance programs, as well as ensure installed solutions are operating at the designed conditions. "Take the final product cooling stage in the fertilizer production process as an example," he writes. "It represents one of the last opportunities to get it right ... It’s common to see highly engineered process solutions still operational decades later with minimal capital investment along the way. Yet this requires operators to execute disciplined operational practices and undertake regular preventative maintenance initiatives." In the article, Chung zeros in on moving bed heat exchange (MBHE) technology that's commonly used in many fertilizer operations worldwide. He examines the common mistakes that leads to premature failure with MBHEs, as well as offers tips on how to keep these solutions operating at peak performance. https://lnkd.in/gBrvUbBH #fertilizer #urea #npk #bulksolids #maintenance #serviceandsupport #worldfertilizer #tips #technology Mark Brouwer

Solex Thermal Science is excited to participate in the upcoming MESA regional conference on sugar technologies, co-hosted by RUNMEX SA DE CV and the Association of Sugar Technicians of Mexico. Taking place in Veracruz, Mexico, the one-day event on Aug. 29 will feature speakers from around the world discussing new and established technologies and their impacts on the sugar-making process. Pedro P. Moran, Global Sales Director, will represent Solex as he discusses how moving bed heat exchange technology effectively cools sugar to specific temperatures as required by ambient conditions. This enables constant temperature storage and direct packaging year round independent of ambient temperatures and weather conditions. RUNMEX SA DE CV is Solex's official agent in Mexico. In the August 2024 issue of Decarbonisation Technology magazine, Warren Chung, P.Eng., Regional Director at Solex Thermal Science, discusses how the implementation of heat integration mechanisms into existing operations is a low-risk and high-return approach for minimizing energy consumption in industrial settings. "Although many industrial processes already incorporate some level of heat integration, difficult-to-handle process streams frequently remain unutilized due to perceived constraints," writes Chung. "Tapping into otherwise wasted heat from these previously overlooked streams presents a significant opportunity for operators to incrementally reduce costs and lower emissions. "Heat pipe heat exchangers (HPHE) and moving bed heat exchangers (MBHE) are two heat integration technologies that take very different approaches to improving the energy performance of industrial processes. However, both can play a similar role in optimizing energy usage and enhancing sustainability in industrial settings."
