October marks #WomensHistoryMonth across Canada, and at Definity, we're celebrating the women across Economical Insurance, Sonnet Insurance Company, Petline Insurance Company, and Family Insurance Solutions Inc. who have made, and continue to make, significant contributions to the insurance industry. 💙 All month long, #TeamDefinity employees are encouraged to take part in activities led by Definity’s Women’s Empowerment Employee Group including: ➡️ Attend a virtual discussion on Wednesday, October 23rd featuring, Kim MacDonald, an award-winning weather personality at The Weather Network, who will share her inspiring journey from a breast cancer diagnosis in 2016 and the trials of treatment, to a triumphant survival after a double mastectomy. ➡️ Attend in-person speed networking events throughout our Definity offices hosted by our Women’s Empowerment Employee Group featuring Brigid Pelino, Senior Vice-President and Chief People & Culture Officer ➡️ We've updated the Women’s Empowerment Channel on our Definity Learning platform with additional learning modules ➡️ Attend a volunteering event with Nankind on October 16 or 17 — an organization dedicated to providing children whose parents are undergoing cancer treatment with free childcare and support. ➡️ Double their impact by making a personal donation through our iCare platform to organizations like Fora: Network for Change — a centre of excellence for young women’s leadership development, making strategic investments in young women through education and training, networking, and providing access to opportunities at home and abroad. In 2023 our Women’s Empowerment Employee Group directed a $20,000 contribution to FORA as an organization aligned with their advocacy work. Hear from Reciprocal Mentor of the Women’s Empowerment Employee Group, Donna Ince, SVP and Chief Underwriting Officer of Personal Insurance, and Chair of Definity’s IDEA Advisory Committee, Tatjana Lalkovic, SVP and Chief Technology Officer, as they provide advice and insight for women looking to enter the insurance industry. ⬇️

On this National Day for Truth and Reconciliation we are encouraging #TeamDefinity across Economical Insurance, Sonnet Insurance Company, Petline Insurance Company, and Family Insurance Solutions Inc. to learn about Canada's residential school history, to take time to listen to survivors, to engage in meaningful discussion, and to seek out opportunities to support First Nations, Inuit, and Métis communities across Canada. Collectively, there is still work to be done, and as an organization we are guided by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s Call to Action #92 that calls on the corporate sector to consult with Indigenous Peoples and communities to ensure equitable access to jobs, and to provide education for management and staff. In 2023, we made important strides to advance our journey for Indigenous reconciliation, through extensive consultation with key groups on the opportunities available for Definity to support Truth and Reconciliation, including with employees, external stakeholders, and Indigenous rightsholders. We’ve also taken the following steps to create change from within, as highlighted in our 2023 ESG report: - Set a target to have at least 15% Black, Indigenous, People of Colour (BIPOC), LGBTQ+, and/or persons with disabilities at the Vice-President and Executive Leadership Team levels by 2026. - Continued to foster strong partnerships with organizations, such as Indigenous Works, and the Canadian Centre for Diversity and Inclusion (CCDI) to offer learning opportunities, along with our employee group events in our monthly IDEA calendar. - Partnered with an Indigenous-owned and operated consultancy to help develop our reconciliation framework that included six internal focus groups to better understand employees’ perspectives, as well as three sharing circles designed to absorb the perspectives of a variety of Indigenous organizations, stakeholders, and rightsholders. - Added Indigenous health expenses to our employee personal spending account. While we’ve made progress, we know that to move forward, we must strive to understand the truth and lived experiences — past and present — of the people of this land and take action to develop healing relationships. To do this, we must continue to be vulnerable, transparent, and authentic in our continued journey, and to centre Indigenous voices in an equitable, reciprocal way that recognizes their unique aspirations, needs, and rights. #NDTR #NationalDayforTruthandReconciliation #EveryChildMatters
