We strive towards menstrual equity and to reduce the stigma of periods through outreach, education, and advocacy.

About us

The Period Purse is a non-profit registered charity that strives to achieve menstrual equity and reduce the stigma surrounding periods. The organization works with community partners, local volunteers and committed donors to deliver menstrual products to people in need. TPP outreach allows the public to run mini drives by collecting financial & in-kind donations for period products. TPP education runs virtual (& in person) presentations to educate everyone about menstruation and reduce the stigma of periods. Does your workplace provide free menstrual products in washrooms? How about toilet paper? Go check! 🩸 Just like other necessities- menstrual products are expensive. Many folks may not be able to afford period products, or may forget to bring some to work when they unexpectedly get their period. This can affect a menstruator’s experience at work. Just like toilet paper- swipe to see why this is important and to learn how your work can get on board with this small yet impactful change! 🙏🏼 #menstrualhealth #backtowork

Advocacy in action! When our founder Jana first spoke at the Torontopubliclibrary TPL back in 2017 she said, “We WILL get free period products in these washrooms!” In 2022, the library did a 6 month pilot project and now, 2 years later, all 84 library branch locations have free period products in all washrooms (not just in the “women’s”). Thank you to The Toronto Reference Library for recognizing menstrual products should be free for all, just like toilet paper and soap! Equity matters. #toronto #period https://lnkd.in/eXJ4BpqG

Partner, Core Firm. Experienced Public Affairs Leader driving social change. 2023 Canada's Most Powerful Women Top 100™ Award Winner Canadian Tire Community Impact. Advocate to eradicate period poverty.

As Chair of the B.C. Period Poverty Task Force, I’m excited to share our final report to the province to propose sustainable approaches to ending period poverty in BC. We hope this work can serve as a roadmap for continued leadership on long term solutions to eradicate period poverty not just for government to follow - but for businesses, organizations and beyond our borders. It’s been an honour to chair this body and process. The task force members brought their expertise - but also their hearts and I’m grateful for their immense contributions, along with the many experts who helped advise our recommendations. https://lnkd.in/g6--iYDH #bcpoli #PeriodPoverty #PeriodPovertyTaskForce #menstrualequity

Of course we all love Menstrual Health Day as it increases awareness and promotes education around periods, period poverty and menstrual equity in Canada and around the world. However, periods are an everyday thing. It’s our health. It’s ensuring everyone who menstruates has access to period products, clean facilities, and health education. Menstruating with dignity is a human right. Menstrual Health Day is every day, period. 🩸 #MHDay2024
