We're proud to see the vital work of anti-racism, empowerment, and the celebration of Peoples of African Descent continue at this afternoon's Pan-African flag raising at City Hall and look forward to continuing to partner with the City to advance our mission and vision. #EmancipationDay #DEIinaction
To commemorate Emancipation Month we raised the Black Liberation Flag at City Hall this afternoon. This month we honour Toronto’s Black communities and reflect on the enduring impact of the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade that shaped global inequalities that continue today. August 1, 1834 marks the day that the Slavery Abolition Act, 1833 came into effect emancipating more than 800,000 enslaved Africans across the British Empire, including Canada This month, there are many ways you can learn about Emancipation Month with activities and events happening throughout the city. From taking in a film screening, to joining conversations, to indulging at food markets, check out all that’s happening in Toronto this month: https://lnkd.in/gkpsea8S

As a food and culture content creator, I’m always looking for ways to learn about the food and hospitality industry so I had to attend the Restaurants Canada show for the 2nd time in a row. This event had it all, pop up food experiences with yummy food, competitions to give chefs, bartenders and baristas a chance to show off their skills, the opportunity to network but mostly importantly a chance to learn about trends in the industry and witness innovation. Some sessions I attended were Social Media Strategy for Restaurants and Bars by Chuck Ortiz and Wine Pairing with Caribbean and Indian cuisine by Natasha Samuels. This year, I decided to step outside of my comfort zone and attend the breakfast with champions event. It was a chance to listen to world-class speakers share in-depth industry research and food for thought over an amazing breakfast. My favourite talk was by Chef Bashir Munye where he talked about decolonizing the table. He talked about the social and economic impact of colonization in the hospitality industry. Shout out to The Re-Seasoning Coalition and Foodpreneur Lab for organizing the Black Experience Pavilion. This space provided m an opportunity for a Blackowned food and beverage products to be highlighted. Lastly, I got the opportunity to share my food series Kitchens of Toronto with the many connections I made. Currently manifesting that one day I can be on the stage sharing my passion project which highlights the stories of ethnic restaurants in Toronto.

I stopped by the Restaurants Canada Show yesterday to catch up with the team at Foodpreneur Lab. As an advisor for the past couple of years, I've been thrilled to witness the remarkable progress and impact made by Foodpreneur Lab in advancing racial and gender equity for Canadian food entrepreneurs. This year’s RC Show marked another milestone that I truly feel grateful to have witnessed. Foodpreneur Lab and The Re-Seasoning Coalition teamed up to introduce The Black Experience Pavilion, a first-of-its-kind initiative aimed at celebrating and fostering connections among Black entrepreneurs, producers, farmers, operators, and buyers. A big congratulations to the team on winning the First-Time Exhibitor Award! #RCShow #foodservice #equityandimpact
