🏖On Saturday, Aug 17 join a one-of-a-kind opportunity to become a community scientist. Join @UofTTrashTeam researchers at Sir Casimir Gzowski Park to learn how they monitor and clean up plastic pellets, a source of microplastics to the Great Lakes. We released our report “Ripple Effect: Unlocking Toronto's Waterfront Potential” in May. A key recommendation: a “team waterfront” approach with an eye to developing this critical asset - in many ways, Toronto’s “last frontier” for large-scale-vision development - in a coordinated, strategic way. Last Friday, I was delighted to co-host the first meeting of key waterfront stakeholders where we began aligning on a joint vision to guide this work. Throughout Toronto’s history, our working waterfront has fueled the city’s economic engine, serving as a vital anchor for trade, commerce, production, and connectivity. And so it must be again, alongside residential, parkland and compelling leisure and entertainment venues. It must be a story of “and” not “or”.
