Our State of the Climate Report 2023 is out, and the evidence it presents is alarming. Records were broken and, in some cases, smashed for Greenhouse gas levels, surface temperatures, ocean heat and acidification, sea level rise, Antarctic sea ice cover, and glacier retreat. The consequences of these changes are all too real, with heatwaves, floods, droughts, and wildfires causing misery and mayhem, upending everyday life for millions and inflicting many billions of dollars in economic losses. To address the pressing climate crisis, we are proud to partner with UNDP for a campaign launch tomorrow. This campaign aims to catalyze immediate #ClimateAction. Early Warning Systems are becoming essential to saving lives and livelihoods. Join us for insightful talks by leading voices on the urgent steps needed. 🚨 Act now and register: https://lnkd.in/egn62JjZ The evidence presented by the #StateOfClimate report demands immediate action. Let's prioritize the advancement of the #SendaiGAP and implementing #EarlyWarningsForAll to confront the challenges posed by climate change head-on. The well-being of future generations hangs in the balance.

🚨 According to the latest State of the Global Climate report by World Meteorological Organization, 2023 has been confirmed as the hottest year on record by a clear margin 📈. Records were also once again broken for greenhouse gas levels, surface temperatures, ocean heat and acidification, sea level rise, Antarctic sea ice cover and glacier retreat. As United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres put it: “Sirens are blaring across all major indicators.” But while the signs of climate change are undeniable, we need to remember: It is not too late to act. We can still keep our planet’s long-term temperature rise below 1.5 °C, and avoid the worst of climate chaos. #ClimateAction

On #InternationalWomensDay , let's recognize how women are disproportionally affected by climate change. Integrating a gender lens into #climateaction is crucial for promoting gender equality and women's rights. https://lnkd.in/d_paBmrS

The climate emergency is a defining reality of our present and future. Across the world, climate impacts reshape where, when, why, and how people migrate. Many people on the move experience hardships and danger. However, migration is also a story of hope, resilience, and opportunities. No, this is not #girlmath. Here are the numbers: 78.5% of all climate pollution comes from G20 countries - the world’s largest economies. 3.9% of all climate pollution comes from the LDC - the least developed countries. And yet, the least developed countries are the ones who suffer the most from the catastrophic effects of climate change. This is climate injustice. It’s time for the richest, most developed countries to step up and do their fair share for the world. Join the #FairShareNow movement and help restore the balance, and go to https://lnkd.in/eprekh-W to find out more. #ClimateEquity #ClimateInjustice Climate Vulnerable Forum (CVF) & Vulnerable Twenty Group (V20)

Aroha’s team has been shocked and saddened at the sudden passing of Professor Saleemul Huq. He has been an absolutely unwavering champion and a very close collaborator across all of the key issues we have been working on and advocating for these past years: on upgrading Paris climate targets to keep 1.5ºC alive, on the need to double adaptation finance, and most notably on funds to address loss and damage where he was the leading voice of the #PaymentOverdue campaign last year. We will never forget his deep commitment to making sure the voices and concerns of the vulnerable and marginalized ring out loud in global fora. His work has inspired us and so many others to never give up the fight for justice, equity, and resilience. May his soul rest in peace, and our heartfelt condolences to his loved ones.
