Info
CERN is a truly unique organisation. A genuine collaboration between countries, universities, and scientists, driven not by profit margins, but by a commitment to create and share knowledge. People here are part of immense scientific discoveries, answering some of life’s most complex questions and pushing the boundaries of understanding. Experts from every field come here to share in this ambition and the nature of this collaborative, international community creates a genuine atmosphere of trust. People are free to work creatively and to trust in, and rely on, their colleagues across the organisation. History’s being made here – and the excitement is tangible, inspiring, and overwhelming at times. It is the only place in the world where you can do this work in this way. --- If you’ve worked at CERN in the past, why not join the official CERN LinkedIn Alumni group, linked from this page.

So long, farewell to proton #physics at the #LHC We’ll see you next year 🤝 Yesterday, protons at 6.8 TeV collided in the Large Hadron Collider for the last time in 2024, thus concluding the third proton-proton run of #LHCRun3. This year, the LHC exceeded expectations, delivering more collisions than expected to its four largest experiments. It will now enter a brief rest and commissioning period, before the start of the heavy-ion run – 19 days of lead–lead collisions – on 4 November. Stay tuned for more. Can scientists follow the tracks left by particles like those left by dinosaurs? 🤔 The answer to this and other questions can be found at the exhibition ‘Curious Connections’ [Dialogues Insolites], where the Geneva Natural History Museum and CERN come together to draw some surprising parallels between #ParticlePhysics and life and earth sciences. The exhibition, hosted at the Globe of Science and Innovation, showcases some of the Museum’s collections while it is closed for renovation. Younger visitors (ages 8+) will be able to explore the exhibition as part of a fun trail. 📅 26 October 2024 – 2 March 2025 📍 Globe of Science and Innovation, Science Gateway campus, CERN 🕜 Tuesday–Sunday, 9.00–17.00 #DialoguesInsolites #CERNScienceGateway

Third time’s the charm 💫 Last week, a group of 30 high-school students came to CERN from all over the world for the third CERN–Solvay student camp. Here we feature some of the highlights of their time at CERN. An important part of the CERN–Solvay Education Programme, launched by CERN with the Solvay, the residential camps are designed for high-school students aged 16+ who are curious about CERN and fundamental research in particle physics. Watch to learn more about the student’s experience: https://lnkd.in/deAwB2ep #CERNScienceGateway #AtCERN #ParticlePhysics #TeachingTuesday

#OpenCall: Connect Arts at CERN welcomes applications from artists and collectives from or based in Switzerland for a fully-funded residency at #CERN to conduct artistic research in dialogue with the scientific community. It will be followed by one month remotely to define a new artwork with the support of a scientific partner and the Arts at CERN team. Connect includes a production stipend of CHF 15,000 and travel, living and accommodation costs at CERN. Apply and read more about the open call and residency: https://lnkd.in/gh9KXDug Deadline: 11 November 2024. #artsatcern #prohelvetia #artresidency #opencallforartists

CERN hat dies direkt geteilt
Teams from Fermilab and Sanford Underground Research Facility have successfully completed the first test lift and lowering of a six-ton L-shaped steel beam for construction of the Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment. The beams, an in-kind contribution to the experiment by CERN, will help form part of the external structure for DUNE's massive cryogenic vessels. The successful test for lowering the heavy steel components brings the international collaboration a significant step closer to the start of the DUNE detector installation. Once operational, a beam of neutrinos sent from Fermilab’s campus near Chicago will travel 800 miles through the earth to DUNE’s massive underground detectors at SURF. Scientists expect DUNE to paint a clearer picture of how neutrinos behave and transform into various states, and even provide clues for the origin of matter in the universe. #DUNEscience #fermilab #physics #neutrino 🔗 Read more: https://lnkd.in/gGx7Rw5k
