This week marks two important days: International Day of Forests and World Water Day! 🌲💧 🌳 Forests provide food, energy, and climate stability. 🥭 With rich ecosystems, they foster biodiversity, absorb carbon, and help sustain agriculture and communities. 🌊 Water is our most precious resource! Protecting water quality, building resilience and tackling shared water challenges is critical. 🚰 Disrupting water cycles can threaten ecosystems, communities, and economies. 🌳💧🥑 To celebrate these days, we’re highlighting our Alto Huayabamba Conservation project! 🐞🌱🌎 Developed by local NGO Amazónicos por la Amazonía AMPA, this incredible project spans 53,000 hectares of both forests and vital water sources. The protected area forms part of a vast wildlife corridor, the Abiseo-Cóndor-Kutukú Corridor, that extends from Sangay National Park in Ecuador to the Cordillera Azul National Park in Perú. The Alto Huayabamba Conservation project fights deforestation and land degradation to reduce CO2 emissions while supporting biodiversity and the community through: ✅ Protecting the habitat of several endangered species 🦜 ✅ Supporting the health and nutrition of the community with improved kitchens 🍴 ✅ Supporting the local economy with sustainable food production like organic honey 🍯 and quinoa production 🌾 ✅ Protecting the water balance of the upper basin of the Huayabamba River which supplies water for families living further downstream 🌊 Protecting these vital ecosystems means securing a healthier future for people, wildlife, and the planet. Alto Huayabamba showcases how climate projects can drive real, lasting benefits for both communities and nature! Let’s continue to nurture our forests and protect our water by safeguarding them both today and every day! 🌎💚 #ForestDay #WorldWaterDay #ProtectNature
