#RFP: To support the planning of activities of the Food Culture Alliance (FCA) – Kenya, GAIN conducted a series of focus group discussions (FGDs) to build on learnings from the Kenya Food Culture exploring aspirational consumption (food and non-food) and understanding how status-markers vary across audiences (rural, urban, male, female). Specifically, we aimed to build on learnings around aspirational food and non-food consumption and to explore perceptions of rural and urban lifestyles and if/how they relate to status (e.g. tradition and modernity dichotomy). The purpose of this RFP is to engage services of a Service Provider to conduct in-depth re-analysis of the FGD transcripts. The objectives are to: i) identify and analyze the values, beliefs, and norms associated with aspirational lifestyles, and describe what that aspirational lifestyle looks like; ii) understand the role of food and health within the context of a aspirational lifestyle, and iii) analyze the ideas, feelings, artifacts, behaviors associated with the combination of traditional and modern worlds. The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition and the SUN Business Network (SBN) Nigeria recently participated in and exhibited at the 2024 Sahel Food Systems Changemakers' Conference, where we led a breakout session on "Nutrition and Food Systems Policy Actions: Leveraging the Nigeria Food Systems Dashboard for Coordinated Policy Action," moderated by GAIN’s Country Director, Dr. Michael Ojo. Together with experts from IFPRI, the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, the Nigeria Governors' Forum, and the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), we discussed the critical role of data in shaping Nigeria's food systems and explored how the Nigeria Food System Dashboard can inform evidence-based policies and improve the lives of millions of Nigerians. Looking ahead, we are excited to see how these insights will strengthen collaboration and drive meaningful change in Nigeria’s food systems. #SCC2024 #SahelChangemakers #FoodSecurity #InnovativeGovernance #FoodSystems #DataDrivenPolicy

At #COP16 in Colombia, leaders from around the world call for ‘a year of united action on climate, nature and food’. In a letter to President Petro of Colombia and President Lula of Brazil, a group of leaders – representing business, finance, science, civil society, Indigenous Peoples, and youth – have announced their support for the COP16 and COP30 Presidents to mobilize actors globally in a year of united action from Cali to Belém. With leadership from Colombia and Brazil, signatories point to the next 12 months as an historic opportunity for the world to: 🌎 Strengthen national climate and biodiversity plans 🌿 Scale up investment for nature and food systems transformation 🗣️ Support the inclusive participation of Indigenous Peoples and local communities As governments approach the February 2025 deadline to submit updated NDCs, signatories write that "we can make ‘peace with nature’ the principle that gives shape to these national climate action plans.“ Read the letter here: https://lnkd.in/eCM8UtQq #ProtectWhatWeLove #WithNature

As countries develop their National Pathways for transforming food systems, one emerging need is ensuring policies land at different levels. A truly effective ‘national’ policy must span all sub-national areas. This paper briefly sets out why this is an important issue, along with examples from two countries where GAIN is working to support such efforts and some implications for ongoing work to transform food systems for the benefit of people and the planet. 🚨Only a few spots left for tomorrow’s event!🚨 🤔 What’s in store? We will dive into one of our four levers of change (narratives, identity, beliefs, culinary systems). These levers enable us to leverage culture to shift society’s food preferences 🧠This time the theme is …Beliefs! Our beliefs are informed by our values and thoughts, and shape our perceptions around food. We can shift these thoughts and values that govern food practices through school curricula, myth and taboo-busting, news and journalism, and documentaries. 🗓️30 Oct 2024 ⏰14:00-15:30 (UK) 🌐 Online Secure your spot now! 👉 https://lnkd.in/egpvKmm3

Empowering Indonesian Youth at the 2nd International Conference on Food and Nutrition GAIN Indonesia supported its Health Heroes community in presenting at the 2nd International Conference of the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization Regional Center for Food and Nutrition (SEAMEO RECFON) on Food and Nutrition, held in Jakarta on October 17-18. The conference theme, “Understanding the Gains, Challenges, and Opportunities in Environmental Nutrition Research, Programs, and Policies in Southeast Asia,” brought together individuals and institutions to share experiences, expertise, and perspectives, enhancing understanding of the region’s environmental nutrition landscape. The Health Heroes champions showcased their impactful work through the Food Investigator Game project, funded by Fondation Botnar in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, GAIN, and Rise Foundation. Their abstracts will be published as journal articles, serving as valuable resources and inspiration for future initiatives. This achievement underscores the importance of youth involvement in nutrition and food advocacy. Special thanks to SEAMEO RECFON for this opportunity and to all GAIN partners for their unwavering support.
