GRSP applauds the Transport Accident Commission (TAC) team in Victoria for clearly explaining the major additional safety that comes from using a 'full-face' motorcycle helmet. With the chin and facial areas being the main head impact points in around 45% of motorcycle crash head impacts, a 'full-face' helmet offers dramatically more head protection than an 'open-faced' helmet.
A coronial report from earlier this year has strongly discouraged motorcycle riders from wearing open-face motorbike helmets. The recommendation comes after the death of a motorcyclist following head injuries caused by a crash. The report called out the vital role that motorcycle protective clothing plays in keeping Victorian riders safe including the importance of wearing full-face motorbike helmets to protect the jaw, face and brain. The video below incorporates the expert insights of Executive General Manager Road Safety Samantha Cockfield and Monash University Accident Research Centre (MUARC) Dr Andrew McIntosh. It demonstrates the superiority of full-face motorcycle helmets in protecting a rider’s head and potentially saving lives. #TACVictoria #roadsafetyawareness #roadsafety #coronialinquest #motorbikes #motorcycles #helmets
