🌐🇷🇼 Building ethical higher education: Insights from the Rwanda training workshop Ethical governance in higher education is essential for fostering integrity, accountability, and academic excellence. In February 2025, Globethics Eastern Africa Regional Centre, Transparency International Rwanda and the Adventist University of Central Africa - AUCA hosted a transformative training workshop in Kigali, bringing together 34 participants from 25 institutions to address ethical challenges in academia. From academic dishonesty to procurement fraud, participants examined pressing ethical concerns and committed to strengthening integrity-driven leadership. Discussions emphasised that ethics must underpin all academic and research activities to ensure Rwanda’s vision of becoming a centre of excellence in education. Key resolutions included: ✅ Developing clear ethical frameworks aligned with integrity, transparency, and accountability ✅ Strengthening ethical policies to address corruption and dishonesty ✅ Integrating ethics into curricula through mandatory courses and discussions ✅ Enhancing accountability mechanisms with peer reviews and reporting channels ✅ Fostering ethical leadership through ongoing training for faculty and administrators As Globethics expands this initiative to Ghana in April 2025, the movement to embed ethical leadership in higher education continues to grow. Participants left inspired to implement these lessons, ensuring ethical principles guide the next generation of leaders. 💜 International Women’s Day 2024: Accelerating Action for Gender Equality in Leadership "You cannot have ethical leadership without the equitable participation of women in decision-making." Yet, women hold only 27% of parliamentary seats worldwide. 📽️At #GEF2024, guest speaker Martin Chungong, Secretary-General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union and Chair of the Global Board of the International Gender Champions network, called to accelerate action to ensure equal representation, protection, and leadership opportunities for women in politics and governance. Ethical leadership demands inclusivity. 🔹 50/50 representation is not an ideal—it’s a necessity. 🔹 Women in politics face higher risks of gender-based violence—this must change.
