Außenhandel und internationale Entwicklung

Bringing beautiful refugee-made products to a global market.

Info

MADE51 is brought to life by UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, a global organisation dedicated to saving lives, protecting rights and building a better future for refugees, forcibly displaced communities and stateless people. Throughout Africa, Asia and the Middle East, MADE51 links refugee artisans in hosting countries with local social enterprises that work in the artisanal sector. MADE51 social enterprise partners are selected based on their proven experience in design, production management, export and marketing. These partnerships are the heart of MADE51. Based in refugee-hosting countries, each social enterprise works directly with refugee artisan groups to create a unique MADE51 range which is sold alongside the enterprise’s existing lines.

MADE51's range of refugee-made products, crafted by over 3,700 artisans, has been on the road! 🚗 ➡️ First stop, the #NansenRefugeeAwards, where we joined in celebrating the inspiring humans who’ve dedicated their lives to supporting refugees, internally displaced, and stateless people around the world. 🌍 From unforgettable live performances to powerful speeches, the spotlight was on this year’s #NansenAward winners—true champions for humanity. 🏆 For the first time ever, all of this year's #NansenRefugeeAward winners were women! We’re thrilled to see these incredible women celebrated for their unwavering contributions to the refugee cause. ➡️ Next stop was the #UNHCR Executive Committee of the High Commissioner's Programme (ExCom). ExCom meets in Geneva annually to review and approve UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency's programmes and budget, advise on international protection and discuss a range of other issues with UNHCR and intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. We were grateful to be able to attend both events this week with our range #craftedbyrefugees in 23 countries, in collaboration with a network of 35 social enterprise partners. 🙏 A huge THANK YOU to everyone who visited our stand and made a purchase! Your support helps refugee artisans create independence, earn a livelihood, and craft brighter futures for themselves and their families. ➡️ Learn more about MADE51 here: https://loom.ly/7QCO5Co #CraftedbyRefugees #MadebyRefugees #MADE51 #MadePossiblebyUNHCR #Handmade #Handcrafted #RefugeeStories

UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, announced that in 2022, for the first time on record, the number of people forced to flee conflict, violence, human rights violations, and persecution has passed the staggering milestone of 100 million. As forced displacement causes people to leave their homes behind, sometimes all refugees can take with them are their skills, traditions, and cultural heritage. This is why Nest, Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) and MADE51 have partnered together to launch a new Refugee Artisan Accelerator that will incubate and support a new cohort of 6 trailblazing social enterprises. This program is designed to help refugees build sustainable livelihoods, utilizing their heritage craftsmanship and culture. A panel of industry experts and program funders selected the inaugural cohort. Program participants will receive customized business development support, as well as, curated market access support and opportunities!

Are you looking to include skilled artisans with refugee backgrounds in your work? MADE51’s Artisan Speakers Group connects you with refugee artisans who are ready to share their stories and heritage skills. Artisans in #MADE51 are redefining the refugee narrative. They are not just survivors but entrepreneurs, leaders, and teachers. Many are also powerful speakers, eager to share their stories in their own words. Conflict often disrupts the transmission of artisanal skills from one generation to the next. As artisans are forced to flee, workshops are destroyed, and markets collapse. But refugees carry valuable knowledge and talents from their homes. By booking one of the nine artisans in #MADE51's Artisan Speakers Group, you help preserve these cultural traditions. Interested in inviting one of these speakers for a workshop, demonstration, Q&A, panel, or other event? ➡️ Click here to learn more: https://loom.ly/kmlrNHQ

Earlier this year, Dominique Hyde, Director of External Relations at UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, spoke to The Beautiful Truth Editor in Chief, Hannah Finch, about the impact that business can have on the humanitarian refugee crisis. In the interview, Dominique spoke about the current refugee crisis, how the media influences public perception, some of the misconceptions that people have about refugees, and she mentions #MADE51 as one of the ways that UNHCR is supporting refugees with employment. It's an interesting and eye-opening read! Read it here: https://loom.ly/B8X9s-k
