We also work to ensure that stateless people are granted a nationality. We work in over 130 countries, using our expertise to protect and care for millions. UNHCR’s greatest asset is our workforce. We work with passionate, talented and creative individuals who want to use their skills for good. Thanks to people like you, we can develop solutions that enable people who have been forced to flee to restart their lives and build better futures. 💡"𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐢𝐬 𝐚 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐚 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐣𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐲...𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟" This is my key take away after completing the 𝗨𝗡 𝐄𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝐋𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝐓𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 I had been selected for this spring. This training offers an opportunity for young leaders in the UN system to acquire key leadership skills, prepare for future roles and learn how to lead in line with the values of the United Nations. After several months of e-learning, webinars and 1on1 coaching sessions, here are my highlights: 🛠𝐀 𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐡 𝐭𝐨𝐨𝐥𝐛𝐨𝐱 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬: I loved the many concepts and tools the trainers and guest speakers shared throughout the course. I am adding them to my personal work toolbox and already applied several of them in practice. 👨🏼🏫𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐱𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞'𝐬 𝐠𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐫𝐬: Throughout the course senior leaders from different UN organizations shared their best practices related to leadership and managing teams. I took a lot of notes! Thank you to Yvette Blanco for all the useful best practices you shared! 🪞𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐦𝐲 𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟-𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐦𝐲 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐲 𝐈 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐝: I was surprised how much of the training was focused on better understanding oneself. However, after completing the course, I see more clearly than ever that you have to know and lead yourself well and engage in regular reflection if you want to successfully lead others. In this context the session of Elizabeth Soltis was particularly insightful. ✅️❌️𝟑𝟔𝟎 𝐝𝐞𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐟𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐈 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡: One of the most exciting parts of this training was a 360 degree feedback, in which i received anonymous ratings and comments from peers, direct reports and supervisors at UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency. Is it an exercise that makes you nervous? Definitely! But you can learn so much from it and grow as a leader - and after all the results were quite positive. Thank you to the United Nations System Staff College (UNSSC) team for this unique learning experience! Also thank you to my fellow participants who shared so many great tips in our peer-mentoring session that always seemed way to short! ❓️What (leadership) training have you taken that really helped you get ahead? #humanitariansAtWork #Leadership #UNEL #UNSSC

Joseph was abandoned as a child by his parents, and it wasn’t until he was 6 years old that he was taken off the streets by his adoptive parents. But without any documents proving his identity or nationality, he was considered stateless under Ivorian law. In 2019, with the advocacy of UNHCR, Côte d'Ivoire made it easier for the judicial authorities to issue nationality certificates to people with unknown parents. Thanks to his adoptive parents and the Association des Femmes Juristes de Côte d'Ivoire, Joseph obtained his nationality documents in 2023. Now 20, he is pursuing studies in Economics, advocates to help #EndStatelessness and can proudly say #IBelong.

Ahead of #WorldHumanitarianDay, I find myself reflecting on the immense responsibility we carry as humanitarians. We're there for people during their toughest times—some might even say their worst days. This work comes with a profound emotional burden, making it crucial to invest in our mental health. Just today, my colleagues reported a small fire that destroyed a family's shelter in Cabo Delgado. Imagine being an IDP, having already fled your home seeking safety, only to lose everything once again. It's heartbreaking. Personally, I can still close my eyes and vividly remember the day we visited a health center in Sudan amidst a cholera outbreak. In just 20 minutes, three children passed away. These were refugees that had fled conflict, only to be exposed due to unprecedented rain to health concerns beyond control. Moments like these stay with you. To continue supporting others, it's vital that we also support ourselves. #MentalHealthMatters #MentalHealth #HumanitariansAtWork
