📢 The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe and partners are bringing together investors, decision makers and #energy transition project leaders at the #SustainableFinance Forum in #Hamburg. Of some 250 energy transition initiatives mapped, 10 projects from South-Eastern #Europe and #CentralAsia requiring financing of more than $15 billion are shortlisted for #COP29 showcasing. The shortlisted #climate initiatives will benefit from training in UNECE's PIERS methodology. This tool, already used by more than 220 projects in over 50 countries, helps evaluate #sustainability of #infrastructure and #PPPs projects. This will support improved #transparency, #accountability and investor readiness before COP29 Azerbaijan. 🌍 UNECE at the Sustainable Finance Forum 2024: Expanding Investment Pathways At the Sustainable Finance Forum in Hamburg, Dario Liguti, Director of Sustainable Energy at UNECE, joined Panel 2: Financial Pathways for Energy Transition, moderated by Sagarika Chatterjee (Climate Finance, Climate Champions). The discussion focused on mobilizing capital and advancing investment-ready projects in developing and transition economies. Dario emphasized the Regional Platforms for Climate Projects, a joint initiative by UNECE, the Climate Champions, and other UN Regional Commissions. Engaging over 200 financiers, it connects capital to climate projects, demonstrating successful investments and addressing scaling challenges. The platform has identified 450+ climate projects, with 19 already securing $1.9 billion in funding. It facilitates investor matchmaking and project readiness through regional events, ensuring visibility and support for these opportunities. Moving forward, the initiative will focus on: 1. 🌍 Digital Technologies: Accelerating the Global Energy Transition At the 2024 Vienna Energy Security Dialogue, organized by the World Energy Council Austria and the OSCE, Branko Milicevic, Economic Affairs Officer at UNECE, outlined how digital technologies are transforming energy systems. 🌍 UNECE Advances Just Energy Transition and Methane Emissions Reduction Efforts at IEA Conference in Baku Last week, Branko Milicevic, representing UNECE's Sustainable Energy Division (SED) and the Group of Experts on Gas, participated in Technical Session #3: Financing Action on Oil and Gas Methane at the IEA Conference in Baku. Emphasizing the importance of continued methane emissions reduction, Branko highlighted our support for developing methane-related regulations on Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) and mitigation, especially in the context of closing coal mines and the oil and gas sectors.
