#SYMPOSIUM2024 On August 27th, the Center of Social Excellence (CSE) in Guinea hosted its flagship event, marking not just the graduation of its 3rd batch of professional social practitioners but a milestone for collaboration within the mining sector. This symposium brought together over 140 key stakeholders, including representatives from the National Transition Council (CNT), Ministère des Mines et de la Géologie Guinée, Ministère de l'Environnement et du Développement Durable, CHAMBRE DES MINES DE GUINEE, REB (Réseau Environnement Bauxite), ANAFIC, Compagnie des Bauxites de Guinee (CBG), and various diplomatic missions and civil society organizations. For 15 years, the CSE, a strategic program of Earthworm Foundation, has been using education as a powerful tool to address the socio-environmental challenges posed by natural resource exploitation. Launched three years ago in Guinea's Boke region, with the financial support of Alcoa Foundation, CSE has been a catalyst for the successful transformation of these trained social practitioners into agents of change ready to serve both the community and mining stakeholders. The 20 graduating students, divided into 4 groups, presented an end-of-training project, sparking critical discussions on mining's impact on communities—covering topics like income-generating activities, local business support, communication, and sustainable development. Mr. Alpha Abdoulaye Diallo from the CNT emphasized the importance of shared responsibility and creating win-win situations for both mining companies and affected communities. Meanwhile, Earthworm Foundation Africa’s strategic consultant, Mr. Erith L. NGATCHOU TOWO, urged all stakeholders to join forces in expanding CSE’s impact, not just in Boke but across Guinea. Thanks to the Alcoa Foundation, CSE has now trained 60 professional practitioners and 20 community leaders. Together, we're shaping a sustainable future for Guinea's mining communities. Let's continue to build on this momentum! Curious to find out more about the CSE program?
