Over 5 years after a devastating fire threatened to destroy Paris' most famous cathedral, Notre Dame is scheduled to reopen to the public on December 8, 2024. In preparation for the grand reopening, France's culture minister has proposed introducing a €5 entrance fee to contribute to a fund aimed at protecting the country's historical churches and monuments. https://ow.ly/evQq50TUjT2

The design concept of Studio Saxe's Sinfonia Verde Home in Costa Rica is inspired by the rainforest: "a complex multi-layered environment where the density and darkness can be disorienting, but an opening in the foliage provides a moment of clarity, revealing the towering heights of trees". https://ow.ly/aukQ50TUa9U

In July 2024, the 'Towers of Sand and Lakes' in the Badain Jaran Desert was added to UNESCO's World Heritage List, leading to ecological preservation and construction restrictions. Local herders are seeking ways to build homes that meet modern needs while retaining indigenous techniques. The proposed #design uses straw #bricks for the main living area, covered by a breathable #metal shell for gatherings and storage. A corridor serves multiple functions, such as cooking in summer and meat storage in winter. The arched roof creates a yurt-like mezzanine space, reflecting cultural traditions. The straw-brick walls ensure good thermal performance, concentrating heat in winter and promoting airflow in summer for energy efficiency and comfort. https://ow.ly/Z4nf50TT4EQ
