Dismemberment—Site 1 is an iconic, site-specific work of Anish Kapoor located in Gibbs Farm, an open-air sculpture park in New Zealand. ‘Dismemberment’ refers to the act of taking apart a body. In many sculptures, the body and the land are viewed as alike, and dismemberment is a way of ritualizing this connection. Shenzhen Metro Line 16, designed by Vantree Design, stands out with its striking ceiling design. It consists of a combination of white changing geometric panels and a shining golden part that looks like it explodes between them. The white portion of the ceiling is cladded with parametrically controlled triangular panels, creating a figure-ground perspective. Linear LED lights are used by embedding in the ceiling, giving the appearance of stars in orbit. ✨Tokyo Institute of Technology Hisao & Hiroko Taki Plaza, designed by KENGO KUMA & ASSOCIATES and completed in 2020, serves as a student activity center at the Tokyo Institute of Technology entrance. The 4,879 m² structure is underground to maintain an unobstructed view of the campus clock tower. Above ground, the building features a stepped, green roof that aligns with the adjacent library’s slanted green wall, forming a continuous landscape. The design integrates interior and exterior spaces through tiered seating and greenery that extends into the building. The spatial layout allows for multiple activities across different levels without clear divisions. The roof structure, shaped by strip-like steps, resembles a river delta and is supported by an exposed twisted framework. 1911 Revolution Museum, designed by CADI with tilted forms symbolizing revolution and a red-and-black color scheme alluding to struggle and a new republic, stands as a monument to China’s transformation. The museum’s contemporary design incorporates elements such as high platforms and sweeping roofs to embody the spirit of the 1911 Revolution. The colors and forms also subtly reference ancient Chu State architecture. The folded plates and steel frame allow for complex geometric shapes and unify the structure’s appearance. The rough, weathered facade contrasts with the precise interior, reflecting the period of chaos before the revolution’s stability.
