⚙️ ✳️ 3D printing and prototyping, laser technologies, and other solutions for the automotive industry – that’s what the Autosap event organised by Brain4Industry and taking place at the HiLASE Centre was all about. The event gathered over 30 experts from the field, who discussed innovation, new solutions, and future predictions for the industry. Presenting on behalf of the HiLASE Centre, Jan Šmaus introduced a case study from our Laser Shock Peening team to the attendees: ◾ HiLASE researchers used LSP to treat a car engine core mould to significantly increase its lifespan by delaying the development of stress corrosion cracking. ◾ LSP is a cold working process delivering residual stresses up to 2mm in depth, increasing material resistance to fatigue, fretting fatigue, stress corrosion cracking, and more. ◾ The automotive sector is one of the most promising application areas for LSP and our researchers have worked on many other cases from this industry. During the excursion at the end of the event, Jan Šmaus shared more practical examples of the use of LSP technology and showed other samples treated at the station. The laser was operated at this level for over 45 minutes (∼3 · 105 shots) in two separate runs with a rms energy stability of 1%. The laser was also operated at 7 J, 100 Hz for 4 hours (1.44 · 106 shots) with a rms long-term energy stability of 1% and no need for user intervention. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time that long-term reliable amplification of a kW-class high energy nanosecond pulsed DPSSL at 100 Hz has been demonstrated. Here’s a short summary of what you can learn about: ◾ 2D materials demonstrate unique properties that favour their integration into ever-decreasing-size electronics. ◾ To benefit from these properties, we need a simple printing technique with micrometric precission for transferring these 2D materials. ◾ During the study, blister-based laser-induced forward transfer (BB-LIFT) for transferring WS2 flakes onto different substrates was explored. ◾ Using Raman spectroscopy, our researchers also investigated the influence of the substrate on the transferred 2D material flakes. Společně si dávají za cíl zvýšit dostupnost povrchů, které zabraňují tvorbě biofilmů, pro medicínská a průmyslová využití. 💬 „Jedním z cílů našeho projektu LasApp je přenést negativ laserem strukturované formy do plastového dílu při klasickém procesu vstřikování, což je proces hromadné výroby plastových dílů, čímž se celá věc zlevní a zrychlí a bude dostupnější pro průmysl,“ říká Petr Hauschwitz. 🚀 𝐄𝐱𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐍𝐞𝐰𝐬: 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐜 𝐌𝐢𝐫𝐫𝐨𝐫 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐄𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐡’𝐬 𝐨𝐫𝐛𝐢𝐭! A small piece of optical equipment, which may be the first step in demonstrating the manipulation of space vessels using lasers, is being developed. The most crucial piece of equipment for this demonstration is a parabolic mirror, as described below. 💡 The parabolic mirror contains ablation material at its center, essential for the process. The HiLASE Centre is actively involved in the LASAR project, which will launch its first satellite into Earth’s orbit this year. Our collaboration goes beyond merely supplying the satellite's optical components; it is also about the next steps in advancing the technology. We will use our laser system to direct a beam towards the satellite and ignite the target positioned at the focus of the parabolic mirror. 🔬 This task is far from easy and certainly not trivial.
