Mewery is the first European foodtech startup developing cultivated pork on microalgae base. Thanks to Mewery, people all over Europe, Asia and further will be able to enjoy real pork meat, juicy and healthy, but with one huge difference: without having to kill a single pig or harming the planet. Mewery is using their own hybrid culture medium with microalgae extracts and developing 3D structures on microalgae scaffolds.

As a future actor in the agri-food chain, here is our take on the final report of the Strategic Dialogue on the Future of EU Agriculture, released last week: 🔬The role of technology and #innovation to support the much-needed sustainable transition is mentioned as a core, guiding principle. New food technologies are not forgotten with a call for “streamlining regulatory procedures for the access to market”, which we👏. 🤝 Prof Peter Strohschneider and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen insisted on the constructive approach and spirit adopted by all participants of this Strategic Dialogue, who worked hard with common objectives in mind despite their divergences. We remember President von der Leyen's call for “more dialogue and less polarisation” in the agri-food debate in her 2023 #SOTEU. We, of course, cannot agree more and find the outcome of this Strategic Dialogue promising in that sense. 📝 We also noted President Ursula von der Leyen’s enthusiasm about the recommendation to establish “a European Board on Agri-food (EBAF)”, a new platform gathering actors from across the agri-food sector, civil society and the world of science to “accompany the rollout of the development of this report”. We cultivate cost savings ... 💰 #GrowthMedium is a major expense for #cultivated #meat🥩 producers - one of top three. In collaboration with Mendel University in Brno and under the leadership of Dalibor Huska, Mewery has developed a method to reduce this cost by leveraging microalgae 🌱. 💡 How? We extract #nutrients 🥗 from a #microalgae #biomass grown in #recycled mammalian cell cultivated medium. These nutrients are then returned back to the mammalian cell culture, creating a closed #circular system. Such a system reduces costs 💵 and thus provides Mewery with a technological advantages over traditional meat cultivation methods. Based on our analysis, we see that this approach will meaningfully reduce production costs and provide another way to increase the affordability of cultivated meat for consumers 🙋🙋🏻♀️.

"Can I have a taste?" 🍔👅 This is the most common question we get when we meet the public. It was no different at the fantastic E.ON #Ekofestival this weekend, an event centered on sustainability 🌍, where we had the pleasure of fielding curious questions from DVTV host Martin Veselovský 🎙️ and sharing what we’re working on at Mewery. But that "𝙛𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙡 𝙩𝙤𝙪𝙘𝙝" was still missing ... 🍽️ One reason is the lack of #legislation that would allow us to offer a taste of our burger before it’s officially approved by the authorities—a process that takes about a year ⏳. That’s why we’re excited that the Ministry of Agriculture of the Czech Republic (Ministerstvo zemědělství České republiky) has established a working group, in cooperation with Mewery, to develop a framework for controlled tasting events—similar to those in the Netherlands 🇳🇱 or Estonia 🇪🇪. Experts from across the food industry and Bene Meat are joining us in this effort.
