🌿⛳️ The Autumn Conference 2024 of the Greenkeeper Association NRW E.V. on the topic of "Biodiversity in Practice" was a great success! 🌿⛳️ ↔️ As attendees, we had the opportunity to experience an inspiring day filled with valuable insights on the topic of "Golf Courses as Habitats for Flora and Fauna." The "GolfBioDivers" project aims to promote biodiversity on golf courses by transforming them into habitats for flora and fauna. Marc Biber (DGV) and Dr. Frederike Velbert (University of Münster) emphasized the important role of greenkeeping in implementing these measures. Beate Licht presented the “Golf Course as a Habitat” project in NRW, which supports natural areas on golf courses. After an exciting panel discussion, the event concluded with a course tour and a demonstration on tree and shrub maintenance. 🙏 A big thank you to the speakers Beate E. 🌱 Algae tea for fit soils? Karl M.' sweater is the same color as the liquid in the small canisters: reed green. With the microalgae, we can improve the microbiome in the soil, he tells me. This strengthens the plants. The big advantage: the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides can be reduced. This is not only interesting for farmers. Golf course operators are also customers, Karl from the Berlin start-up Alganize reveals. 🟢 At the #AgriFoodDemoDay 3.0 in Munich, I got to know many agritech and foodtech start-ups. They want to help shape the future of the agriculture and food industry with innovative technologies. To name a few start-ups: 🛰️ CinSOIL measures and monitors the carbon content in soils using satellite images. 🐝🛡️ Varolis-apimed uses lithium to protect honey bees from varroa mites. 🔍⚠️ iComplai - Early Warning System for Food Supply Chain gives us early warning of raw material risks in the food supply chain. 🥛🌾 circular grain (ehem. tremi) produces milk substitute from brewer's spent grain. 💚 I love courageous people who help shape the changing world and make the future possible. Besonders beeindruckt hat mich das Exzellenzcluster, das in München rund um Agrifood-Themen entsteht. Es wird spannend die Achse Food Campus Berlin – München weiter auszubauen und ich freue mich auf weitere zukünftige Kooperationen! Was ich sonst noch mitgenommen habe? Here's a quick wrap-up: 🎯 At the DLD Conference, Karl was invited to share our joint project with Protegg GmbH on soil acidification buffering and to pitch our message on biodiversity and sustainability. What a highlight! ⛳ Meanwhile, Nils visited more than 20 prestigious golf courses in Northern Italy, bringing new clients on board. We're thrilled about these new partnerships and excited for the collaboration ahead! 👥 Omar attended the Farm-Food-Climate Festival and the Andreas Hermes Akademie, where we strengthened existing partnerships and built new business relationships. © On top of all that, we're in the middle of filing for a patent. ☀ Dollar spot disease is a common summer fungal infection in turfgrasses, often triggered by nutrient deficiencies and inadequate water supply. High temperatures, dry stress, and fluctuating conditions like warm days, cool nights, and morning dew increase the risk. ☘ Particularly affected is creeping bentgrass, while strong creeping red fescue (Festuca rubra subsp. rubra) shows natural resistance when infected by the fungal endophyte Epichloë festucae. 📑 New research has identified an antifungal protein (Efe-AfpA) produced by E. festucae as a key factor in this resistance. In trials, the protein effectively protected grasses from dollar spot, offering a promising sustainable alternative or complement to fungicides for disease management in turfgrasses. 🏅 As we constantly improve our products, this and other studies play an important role in our development.
