🌍 Sustainability Meets Assistance at Compass Point Assist!🌲 At Compass Point Assist, we believe that sustainable practices are not just an option—they're essential. As a 24/7 medical and travel assistance company, we recognize the direct link between a thriving environment and meaningful travel experiences. This is why we're proud to be a subalpine partner of Protect Our Winters Germany. ❄️ Why winter matters to us: Our team is deeply rooted in the German, Austrian, and Swiss Alps. Many of us grew up skiing, snowboarding, and mountain guiding, while others who didn’t grow up here now proudly call it home. Our connection to the mountains is personal and professional. We know the terrain, the injuries that can happen, and how to react in an emergency. With our local expertise, we also understand the true costs of a ski injury and know which clinics can—and should not—treat our travelers. 🏔️ Why winter matters to travel: Sustainable winters are about preserving these iconic destinations for future generations. As winters warm, these cherished experiences are at risk—affecting travelers, locals, and everyone whose lives are shaped by snowy landscapes. Our commitment to POW Germany aligns with our goal to keep winter destinations accessible, pristine, and resilient for years to come. At Compass Point Assist, we’re excited to hit the slopes ourselves and help protect our winters—so our travelers can keep exploring them safely, sustainably, and joyfully! 🏂⛷️ #Sustainability #SustainableTravel #WinterSports #MedicalAssistance #POWGermany #ProtectOurWinters #TravelAssistance #CompassPointAssist #SupportSustainableTravel

Oktoberfest 2024 Recap: Supporting Global Travelers at the Wiesn 🍻

Profil von Jennifer Milton anzeigen, Grafik

A biologist enthusiastically connecting the dots for global healthcare solutions

It’s a wrap! 🎉🍻 Yesterday marked the last day of #Oktoberfest2024, wrapping up 16 days of celebrations at the world’s largest folk festival. Our team at Compass Point Assist, headquartered just south of #Munich in the #BavarianAlps, once again had the pleasure of providing medical and travel assistance to global visitors at the Wiesn. From lost passports and purses to more serious incidents like broken hips (those beer benches can be treacherous!), a few cases of alcohol poisoning (though minor), and deep cuts from Maßkrug mishaps, we were there every step of the way to ensure that travelers had the support they needed. According to Süddeutsche Zeitung this year´s Oktoberfest drew in around 6.7 million guests, slightly fewer than last year’s 7.2 million, but it was still a vibrant and lively celebration. Here are some key stats from this year’s Wiesn: Medical Incidents: The Aicher Ambulanz medics had a calmer Wiesn compared to last year, handling 5,346 cases (down 28% from 2023). The CT scanner was used 205 times, and stretchers were deployed 1,753 times (compared to 2,594 in 2023). On average, it took them just four minutes and nine seconds to reach patients. Safety: The number of reported #crimes decreased by 24% to 706 cases, with no capital crimes such as manslaughter or robbery. Reported sexual offenses slightly decreased to 56 (from 67 in 2023). There were 212 cases of bodily harm, with 29 involving altercations with beer mugs. Drug-Related Incidents: The number of reports related to violations of the Narcotics Act was significantly lower than last year due to changes in cannabis regulations, with 133 cases reported. Theft: Theft reports were down to 158 (from 182 in 2023), particularly for pickpocketing, which saw a sharp decline to 38 cases compared to 123 last year. Beer Consumption: 7 million liters of beer were served this year, with the share of non-alcoholic beer remaining steady at 4-5%. It’s worth mentioning the important work of the #AktionSichereWiesn initiative, which offers support for women and girls at the festival. Their “Safe Space” was visited 345 times, reflecting the need for safety and support in such a large event. Overall, Oktoberfest 2024 was a fantastic event despite some rain and cooler temperatures, and we’re already looking forward to next year’s Wiesn! If you or your travelers—whether individuals, insured members, or travel groups—need support or assistance, feel free to reach out. We’re here to help you plan, navigate, and enjoy a safe experience at the Wiesn and beyond! Prost, and see you in 2025! 🍻🌍💙 #Oktoberfest2024 #Wiesn #TravelAssistance #MedicalAssistance #MedicalSupport #GlobalSupport #BavarianAlps #CompassPointAssist #Oktoberfest2024 #Wiesn #TravelAssistance #MedicalAssistance #MedicalSupport #Germany #Deutschland #DACH

Tables are often sparsely decorated as the celebrations get lively, and it's common for people to stand on the tables and benches as the night progresses. - Oktoberfest has been held annually since 1810. However, it has been canceled 26 times due to war, cholera, and, more recently, COVID-19. The festival returned in 2022 after a two-year hiatus. We're dedicated to supporting travelers all year round, and we're especially busy during major events like the #UEFA where we were on-call for over 750 travelers! Whether you need travel logistics or medical assistance, our team is here to help. For years, thousands have flocked to Munich for the Oktoberfest. For two weeks, the Theresienwiese in the Bavarian capital is filled with celebration, swaying, and drinking. Here are a few fun facts about the Oktoberfest: - During the months of September and October, a total of 6.3 million visitors come to Munich to spend time at Oktoberfest. - Visitors drink around 6.5 million liters of beer: Of course, almost all visitors drink, at least 😉, a Maß (a liter of beer). The beer is naturally sold in 1-liter Maßkrüge (beer mugs). This amount corresponds to a total of 153 swimming pools 🙀. As we approach another summer that could bring record-breaking temperatures, it’s clear that climate change is making extreme heat more frequent. This has significant implications for our health and the well-being of our pets. Whether you’re at home or traveling, it’s essential to consider the risks associated with high temperatures, especially for pets traveling in the cargo hold of airplanes. Surprisingly, the greatest dangers arise not during the flight, but while the pet is on the ground. Pets are at risk when they are in unairconditioned cargo facilities, waiting on the baggage dock, on the tarmac before boarding (since live animals are boarded last), and during taxiing and waiting for takeoff. The cargo hold, being close to the ground, can heat up rapidly. To protect animals, most airlines have set temperature restrictions. Pets are generally not accepted in the cargo hold if the temperature at any point in the itinerary exceeds 84°F (29°C), and for snub-nosed breeds, the limit is 75°F. From May to September, many airlines restrict pet travel in the cargo hold due to the high risk of heat exposure on the tarmac and the lack of air-conditioned holding areas. It's crucial to remember that the main danger to your pet occurs while they are on the ground, not during the flight. CPA now offers 24/7 support that includes pet assistance services. Whether you're traveling with a furry friend or a feathery companion, we’ve got you covered. Check out our latest post to learn more about how we're making travel safer and easier for both two-legged and four-legged adventurers. #PetSafety #HeatStrokePrevention #TravelTips #PetTravel #SummerSafety #ClimateChange #ExtremeHeat #PetCare #PetTravelSafety #SummerHeat #AirlinePetPolicy #HeatEmbargo #SnubNosedPets #CargoHoldRisks #PetOwners #PetWellbeing

Compass Point Assist extends our deepest condolences to the friends and families of those affected by last week's devastating accident. Rescuers in Nepal have ruled out the chances of finding survivors from the landslide that swept two passenger buses, carrying 65 people, into a river swollen by heavy rain. Hundreds of security personnel resumed search operations early on Monday to locate the buses and the 55 passengers who remain missing, over 72 hours after the accident. So far, searchers scouring the accident site in #Chitwan district, about 86 km (53 miles) west of the capital #Kathmandu, have found seven dead bodies, including two on Monday. Nepal, along with other parts of South Asia, is in the midst of the monsoon season and has seen heavy rainfall in recent weeks, triggering floods and landslides that have affected millions. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families, and everyone impacted by this disaster. Aban Gautam #Nepal #Landslide #India #RescueEfforts #MonsoonSeason https://lnkd.in/d3tuABjD

Attention Travelers: Red Alert Stromboli Volcanic Activity! 🚨 As the European travel season kicks off and tourists flock to their favorite spots, we want to highlight an important update for those considering a visit to Italy, particularly the beautiful Stromboli island. #Stromboli, part of the #AeolianIslands archipelago, is renowned for its persistent eruptive activity, known as "Strombolian" activity. This means you can witness spectacular explosions of lava, lapilli, and ash every 10-20 minutes! These natural fireworks erupt from multiple openings within a crater terrace, creating an awe-inspiring sight. However, it's crucial to stay informed about current conditions. The alert level for Stromboli is currently red. Civil Protection Minister Nello Musumeci has confirmed that evacuation plans are in place, and the number of firefighters has been doubled as a precaution. Access to viewing points on the Sciara del Fuoco has been restricted to ensure safety. If you have plans to travel to the area, please stay updated on the latest news. According to Euronews, authorities are actively monitoring the situation and taking all necessary precautions. While the allure of Stromboli's eruptions is undeniable, safety must come first. Travelers should be aware that trip cancellations and temporary airspace closures may occur due to volcanic ash. Please advise accordingly and ensure that all travel plans include flexibility for any sudden changes. #TravelAdvisory #TravelAssistance #MedicalAssistance #Volcano #TravelSafety #ItalyTravel #TravelAlert https://lnkd.in/dmCYtkdc
