𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗘𝗧𝗛 𝗭𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗵 𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗱𝘃𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 MAN Energy Solutions Switzerland and ETH Zürich, the public research university, have launched a strategic partnership to advance research in sector coupling and energy-system modelling. The collaboration aims to address one of the biggest challenges of the energy transition, namely the seamless integration of electricity, heating, and cooling networks. The core of the partnership comprises funding for six postdoctoral researchers at the ETH Foundation to develop AI-powered energy-system models that will enable deeper technical and economic analysis of European energy markets and infrastructure. The research will also focus on optimizing existing models by reducing computational demands, ultimately leading to more efficient and sustainable solutions. MAN Energy Solutions is contributing its expertise as a technology solutions-provider in the energy sector to the partnership, particularly within the areas of industrial-scale heat pumps and electrothermal energy-storage systems. Patrik Meli, Managing Director of MAN Energy Solutions Switzerland, said: "We are excited to join forces with ETH Zurich to shape the future of sustainable energy. True innovation happens when we break down silos and approach electricity, heating and cooling as a unified system. Artificial intelligence opens up new possibilities to better understand and optimise these interactions – opportunities we must embrace with boldness and vision. Collaborations like this are key to turning groundbreaking research into real-world solutions." Joël Mesot, President of ETH Zürich, said: "For research results to make a real impact, ETH relies on strong industry partnerships. This collaboration with MAN Energy Solutions marks an important step toward developing innovative solutions for the future of energy." 𝗙𝘂𝗹𝗹-𝗦𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗲 𝗔𝗺𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗮 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗥𝘂𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝘁 𝟭𝟬𝟬% 𝗟𝗼𝗮𝗱! MAN Energy Solutions has reported that its ME-LGIA (-Liquid Gas Injection Ammonia) engine, currently undergoing testing at its Research Centre Copenhagen (RCC) facility, has run at 100% engine load for the first time. Ole Pyndt Hansen, Head of Two-Stroke Research & Development, MAN Energy Solutions, said: “We began full-scale testing in November 2024 and have since proceeded in a cautious and safety-first way. We have now operated the engine on ammonia from 25–100% load, marking yet another important step forward in the maritime energy transition. As such, we have now validated the ammonia fuel-injection system over the full load-curve with diesel-pilot amounts recorded according to our targets. Furthermore, the positive emission and performance characteristics from previous, single-cylinder tests have now also been validated in full-scale engine operation.” MAN Energy Solutions states that its proprietary SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) was operational at all test loads to treat exhaust gases, and that all supply and safety systems worked as intended. It also says that the next phase of testing will focus on performance and emission optimisation, including injection and SCR systems as well as control strategies. 𝐅𝐮𝐞𝐥-𝐟𝐥𝐞𝐱𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬 𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐟𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 How can you decarbonize power generation while maintaining grid stability and protecting your investments for the long term? Our answer is to offer future-proof engines that are easily adaptable to different fuels. Our fuel flexibility already includes support for low carbon or carbon-neutral fuels such as e-methane, hydrogen blends, and biofuels. The MAN 35/44G TS, for example, can lower your CO2 emissions by around 9% when running with a 25% hydrogen admixture. In future, it can be retrofitted to 100% hydrogen operation.
