Agricultural soils in Slovenia, Serbia, and Poland have been experiencing a continuous decline in organic matter over the past 30 years, reducing soil fertility and contributing to climate change. Organic farming and sustainable agricultural practices offer significant potential for carbon sequestration, yet their adoption remains limited due to a lack of technical knowledge and collaboration among farmers, advisors, and policymakers. In this context, we are delighted to kick off the project "Improving C-Balances on Organic Farms II" (EUKI 2) in Ljubljana this month, hosted by the Agricultural Institute of Slovenia. In the coming 3 years, Naturland and its project partners - the Agricultural Institute of Slovenia, the Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops of the National Institute of the Republic of Serbia and the National Institute of Horticultural Research of Poland - will test cover crops, agroforestry systems, and organic amendments to improve soil organic carbon levels. The know-how will be shared through field days on demonstration farms, at online seminars and conferences, as well as through content on the Naturland Academy platform and the partners’ webpages. The project is financed by the Federal Ministry for Development and Cooperation within the framework of the European Climate Initiative (EUKI).

Tropical fruits and spices grow abundantly in South India. However, due to erratic rainfall patterns, declining water tables and excessive water abstraction, farmers are struggling to maintain a secure water supply for their crops. 💧Organic producers such as Mother India Farmers in Tamil Nadu have developed strategies to manage, store and conserve water with methods that are low-tech, but smart and impactful. 💧 https://lnkd.in/d6a29kMJ More information about Naturland's approach to sustainable water management here: https://lnkd.in/dMWtr5VF

On the International Day of Forests, let's take a moment to consider what brilliant all-rounders agroforesty systems are. They offer numerous benefits for both the environment and people. That is why Naturland farmers practice agroforestry by cultivating permanent crops such as coffee or cocoa under shade trees. 🌳🌴 The Naturland Academy produces learning materials to support organic farmers worldwide. 🌍 Wir wollen den ökologischen Wandel – und wir wollen ihn weltweit! Als internationaler Verband sind wir rund um den Globus aktiv. Da ist die BIOFACH als größte internationale Messe für Bio-Lebensmittel natürlich der "place to be", um uns mit unseren Partnern, Produzent:innen und Mitstreiter:innen zu treffen. Entsprechend war in der kreisrunden Lounge im Zentrum unseres brandneuen Standes einiges geboten. Wir freuten uns unter anderem über den Besuch von ❇️ Plantrich Agritech Private Limited aus Indien – mit einem Vortrag über die EU-Entwaldungsverordnung und mögliche Instrumente im Umgang damit. ❇️ Unsere Projektpartner aus Georgien - für eine Präsentation über Georgiens reiches ökologisches Erbe und das Potential der Wertschöpfungsketten mit einer Verkostung von georgischem Bio-Wein und Nüssen. ❇️ FederBio Servizi Srl - mit einer Presseveranstaltung für unser gemeinsames Projekt „Being Organic in EU“ ❇️ Delegationen aus Taiwan und aus der Ukraine ❇️ Frauke Weissang, Naturland Produzentin in Italien und Vorstandsmitglied für unsere internationalen Mitglieder - bei der Würdigung für ihr langes und unermüdliches Engagement. Es war inspirierend und eine große Freude, sich persönlich auszutauschen. Vielen Dank an alle, die vorbeigeschaut haben. Lasst uns weiter gewinnbringend an unseren gemeinsamen Zielen arbeiten.

🎉 Celebrate the Organic Change! Halbzeit bei der BIOFACH 2025: Am zweiten Abend der Messe fand Renate Künast, MdB, ermutigende Worte für die Bio-Branche. Umso ausgelassener war entsprechend die Stimmung bei der inzwischen legendären Naturland Standparty. Hier kamen alle zusammen, um zum Set von "Just Another DJane" zu tanzen, ein Gläschen von Axel Secks Weinen zu genießen und den aufregenden zweiten Messetag gebührend abzuschließen. Ein immer wieder wunderbares Wiedersehen mit alten Bekannten, und spannendes Kennenlernen mit neuen Gesichtern. Danke, dass ihr mit uns gefeiert habt. Wir freuen uns schon jetzt wieder aufs nächste Jahr! Das Event fand statt im Rahmen der Informationskampagne Being Organic in EU Deutschland.

The event is part of the 'Being Organic in EU' information campaign, a joint project of Naturland and FederBio Servizi Srl. For over 3 years, we have been collaborating to raise awareness for organic food production. Learn more about 'Being Organic in EU' at the joint press conference tomorrow. Naturland and FederBio will present current market data and discuss the prospects for the organic sector in Italy and Germany. We've crunched the numbers: 2024 was a year of stable growth for Naturland. In 2024, 128,000 organic producers in 61 countries cultivated a total of 750,000 hectares according to Naturland standards. 💚🌎 More details here: https://lnkd.in/dw-MhBG5
