The race is still on in the US: What to expect from both presidential candidates in the upcoming elections and beyond? How will they affect business opportunities and risks all over the world?   To answer these questions, Porsche Consulting has been partnering with Agora Strategy in Munich and invited top managers from different industries for an early morning session – with a quick breakfast and a lot of food for thought. The event serves as a platform for active dialogue between decision-makers from politics, diplomacy, and business on the defining geopolitical developments. Hosts Dr. Timo Gerrit Blenk, CEO Agora Strategy, and Dirk Pfitzer, Senior Partner Industrial Goods at Porsche Consulting, discussed with an experienced German top-diplomat and political advisor at the hotel Bayerischer Hof in Munich. From the discussion, four megatrends were visible:    ➡️ Whoever wins the elections: The United States will be following protectionist policies in the future. ➡️ America is focusing on its now biggest rival China. ➡️ The acceptance to take financial burdens for allies is rapidly declining in the United States. ➡️ The polarization of politics in the US will continue for a long time to come.   Participants agreed that Europe will have to newly define its role in the world and that it has to take on more responsibilities. #Geopolitics #BusinessStrategy #GlobalEconomy #Protectionism #Diplomacy

At the core of outstanding customer experience lies a deep understanding of customer needs—both known and unknown. 🔍   In today's highly competitive markets, customers hold significant power, expecting more than just products or services. A survey by Porsche Consulting reveals that 84% of companies believe the customer experience is as crucial as the offerings themselves. In today’s customer-centric world, focusing on meeting customer needs is essential for maintaining a strong position in the market and ensuring long-term success. To truly elevate customer satisfaction, companies must not only meet but anticipate and exceed expectations. Porsche Consulting has identified three essential layers of customer needs, which go beyond surface-level demands:   ✨ Known Needs The obvious, conscious requirements that customers expect to be fulfilled.   ✨ Unknown Needs The hidden, unconscious desires that require deeper exploration and insight.   ✨ Unseeded Needs The future opportunities that we have the power to create and bring to life.   ➡️ True customer experience excellence goes beyond addressing what’s apparent—it’s about diving deeper, innovating, and creating value that customers didn’t even know they needed. Let’s keep pushing boundaries and get closer to customers than ever before.   #CustomerExperience #Customer #Innovation #CustomerNeeds

Construction equipment manufacturers are navigating a global boom, but productivity has stalled. Digital transformation presents both a significant opportunity and a potential threat for traditional OEMs. 🏗️   At this year’s Construction Equipment Forum Christoph Remmers, Associate Partner Industrial Goods, raised the question: “Will traditional OEMs become mere ‘metal benders’ in the future?” The construction industry faces pressure to enhance productivity due to labor shortages and tight deadlines. Automation and digitization are essential, necessitating smarter, more efficient, and sustainable machinery that supports rather than replaces workers. Key trends shaping the industry include IoT for real-time monitoring, cognitive work for improved planning, and automation or prefabrication to minimize on-site manual labor, all of which will redefine the role of construction equipment manufacturers:   ➡ Rapidly Increasing Requirements The impact is significant. AI-processed telemetry data is essential for anomaly detection and performance optimization. Machines must execute pre-planned cloud solutions such as BIM and TIM, making them smarter and more connected. As a result, fewer but more efficient machines will reduce overall construction costs. Sustainability Bonus: These smarter machines use less fuel, or even run electrically, offering both cost and environmental benefits.   ➡ Declining Demands for Specific Machine types As digitalization accelerates modular and serial building methods, machine manufacturers may face declining demand due to more efficient and shorter equipment usage on job sites (think concrete pumps, for instance).   ➡ Software Scalability Challenges Moreover, software scalability poses a challenge. Unlike the automotive industry, where production volumes are high, construction machinery manufacturers often produce relatively low quantities. This makes bespoke software solutions from smaller manufacturers risky.   ➡ The Path Forward To navigate these challenges, forming partnerships – whether between OEMs, such as the collaborations seen in the commercial truck industry, or with tech players – will be a strategic next step.   #Construction #ConstructionEquipment #Digitalization #CEF24

The European Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) industry is navigating a complex landscape marked by an extremely volatile market environment with rapidly growing competition from Asia. Despite these challenges, European EMS companies, which produce components such as printed circuit boards for electronic manufacturers, can remain competitive through strategic innovation, automation, and resilient supply chain management. In 2023, European EMS companies achieved a record €57 billion in sales. However, rising labor and material costs are expected to put pressure on margins. The key to prevailing in the difficult market environment is to harmonize speed and perfection in product development, series production and organizational order execution. Companies need to focus on their customer service strategy, adopt advanced technologies, build resilient supply chains, as well as balance their footprint. These elements enable fast and high-quality delivery performance with high flexibility while simultaneously safeguarding profitability. The better EMS companies can balance these different requirements, the better they can benefit from major disruptions ahead.   Learn more about how European EMS companies can play to their strengths in the new Porsche Consulting Impulse "Speed Meets Perfection": https://lnkd.in/eiehkB5H #EMS #ElectronicsManufacturingServices #SupplyChain #Automation #Resilience

Today’s CIOs are evolving into integrated transformation partners. Modern IT and data roles are focused on building products quickly and efficiently within agile, cross-functional business-IT teams, often referred to as "product organizations". These teams ensure ownership and focus on what is really needed by internal or external customers. Seamless collaboration between these two forces will increase internal value creation and drive innovation. Traditionally, business and IT operated in silos, with business leaders focusing on their functional strategy and growth, while IT ensures operational stability by a solid digital backbone. This division often resulted in miscommunication and slowed progress. As digital transformation accelerates, the need for a strong partnership between business and IT has become critical to meet evolving customer demands, increased competition, and emerging technologies. When business and IT unite in a lean-agile product organization, the results are transformative: employee satisfaction rises by 10-50%, productivity increases by 20-50%, and a culture of continuous improvement emerges: ⭐ Cross-functional teams Companies should create cross-functional teams where professionals from both areas collaborate closely. By working together, these teams can establish shared goals, improve communication, and accelerate decision-making. ⭐ Shared KPIs Implementing shared KPIs that align the goals of both business and IT teams ensures accountability for the same outcomes, which in turn fosters stronger teamwork and a shared mindset.   ⭐ One language for agile collaboration Agile methodologies like Scrum, Kanban, and DevOps can be transformative. These approaches emphasize iterative development, continuous feedback, and quick adaptation to market changes. Organizations that adopt agile practices, such as the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe), often experience 30-75% faster time-to-market and 25-75% improvements in product quality.   ⭐ Learning culture Fostering a culture of continuous learning, where both business and IT staff are encouraged to upskill in each other’s areas, can further strengthen the partnership. This shared knowledge not only promotes innovation but also equips teams to face new challenges together.   In the fast-paced digital landscape, such collaboration is crucial for long-term success and maintaining a competitive edge. #CIO #Transformation #Agile #Innovation #CrossFunctionalTeams

Solid-state batteries (SSB) are gaining significant attention due to their long range, fast charging capabilities, high stability, and potential for lower costs. 🔋   Our Porsche Consulting battery experts participated in the CAR Battery Days event, organized by CAR Center Automotive Research and co-hosted by BASF, where they shared their insights on the future of battery technology during an engaging two-day event. The advantages of SSBs are attracting interest from automotive OEMs and various other industries. What opportunities and challenges do they bring for car manufacturers, cell makers, and the supply chain?   ➡️ Technology Potential: Solid-state batteries offer a promising solution for achieving high performance and stability.   ➡️ Industrialization Challenge: Before large-scale deployment, key industrialization challenges must be addressed to ensure performance and cost competitiveness. Approximately 60% of current cell production processes need to be adapted or replaced to meet new production requirements.   ➡️ Raw Materials Impact: Leading SSB technologies typically require significantly higher lithium content compared with today’s lithium-ion batteries (up to 70% more per kWh). This increases exposure to raw material price volatility and the risk of lithium shortages, emphasizing the importance of strategic raw material management for SSB players.   #SolidStateBatteries #Battery #Electrification #SustainableMobility #FutureOfMobility #BatteryInnovation

Smart Factory in a can. How Ardagh Metal Packaging is making global production more flexible. With 23 factories across three regions, Ardagh Metal Packaging embarked on a journey to transform its production facilities into the “plant of the future.” This transformation aims to produce cans with high variance and maximum efficiency. 📋 Challenge Ardagh Metal Packaging faced the challenge of balancing customization with mass production. To meet future customer demands efficiently, the company is bringing its production processes and technologies to the next level. The initial conditions at the various locations varied significantly, making a one-size-fits-all solution impractical. 🛠️ Implementation In collaboration with Porsche Consulting, Ardagh Metal Packaging developed a flexible action plan tailored to the regions of North America, South America, and Europe. This plan considered the different cultures and development stages of each factory. The approach involved identifying potential improvements and prioritizing use cases specific to each region. 🏆 Result The transformation led to diverse solutions, from automated guided vehicles to real-time data provision, tailored to the unique needs of each factory. This customization ensured that each site could progress towards becoming a “plant of the future” in its own way. Check out how Ardagh Metal Packaging is transforming its production processes: https://lnkd.in/ed4pTV64 #SmartFactory #DigitalTransformation #Manufacturing #Innovation #MetalPackaging
