🧑💻 Biotech is reshaping the food industry, and fermentation-derived ingredients are leading the transformation. With the potential to make up 4% of total protein production by 2050, fermented novel proteins present a $100-150 billion market opportunity. 🌱 🦠 Fermentation allows us to produce proteins and other key ingredients using microbes instead of animals, reducing land use and emissions while improving food security. Yet, production costs remain significantly higher than those of traditional proteins. The momentum is already building - over $4 billion has been invested in precision and biomass fermentation in the past five years alone. But to truly disrupt the food system, we need innovative business models, strategic collaborations, and sustained investment. £54.9 million. That’s how much the NHS could save every year just by serving more plant-based meals in hospitals. A new policy briefing backed by 25 health & sustainability organisations is calling for a major shift in UK food procurement - one that could improve public health and reduce emissions. Right now: 🚫 UK Schools must serve meat 3 times a week. 🚫 42% of NHS hospital menus have no fully plant-based dinner options. 🚫 Billions are spent on food that isn’t always healthy or sustainable. Here at ProVeg we are already working towards this change with the UK School Plates programme. We help UK schools introduce affordable, nutritious plant-based meals that benefit children, the planet, and the economy. It’s time for change. Let us know in the comments which School or Hospital should go plant-based? ⬇️ Read the full article: https://hubs.ly/Q03d3QWY0 #ProVeg #PlantBasedMeals #ProVegSchoolPlates

Biodiversity and healthy ecosystems are the backbone of agriculture, providing essential services like pollination, soil fertility, and water regulation. But industrial animal farming is driving deforestation, biodiversity loss, and ecosystem degradation - weakening our food systems in the process. 🔥 With food systems responsible for a third of global greenhouse gas emissions, climate change is making things even worse. Extreme weather events, soil erosion, and pollinator decline all threaten long-term food security. To protect our future, we must shift towards sustainable, plant-based food systems that work with nature, not against it. 🌱 📖 Swipe through to learn more, and hit the link for the full breakdown: https://hubs.ly/Q03dg19L0 #ProVeg #FutureFitFarming #SustainableFood
