📱 Internet4Good Africa is a NGO dedicated to creating a more nuanced and positive narrative about the use of the #Internet by African youth. It was founded in 2020 by Oyindamola Adegboye together with two other members of our Bosch Alumni Network: Kodzo Yaotse and Mercy Mangwana Nyamhunga. At the time, Oyindamola was participating in the Common Futures Conversations program developed by Chatham House Africa Programme, which we supported. 💭 On the occasion of our 60th anniversary, she looks back and reflects on how this support has strengthened her personal journey. ➡️ Read the interview: https://lnkd.in/gRsmCP-4 #CyberCrime #YouthDevelopment #Africa 🚀 You see what great initiatives emerge from our alumni network coordinated by the International Alumni Center gGmbH (iac Berlin). You too can take part if you are a former or current fellow, grantee or staff member of the Robert Bosch Stiftung or its partners.

The upcoming presidential elections in the US have been in the spotlight over the past few days since #PresidentBiden endorsed #KamalaHarris as the democratic candidate. Despite the new dynamic in the election campaign, the political discourse still continues to be extremely polarizing. And the #fourthestate - the media- plays a decisive role in it. In the current episode of our podcast "Think. Debate. Inspire.", Henry Alt-Haaker and Dr. Pradnya Bivalkar speak with Jay Rosen from the New York University about 📌 how the American media system has evolved over the past decades, 📌 the role that the American media has traditionally played in creating and strengthening or weakening the persona of presidential candidates, 📌 why and how the far right rejects mainstream media, 📌and last but not least, the phenomenon of #DonaldTrump. Do give this very timely and insightful conversation a listen and let us know what you think 👉 https://lnkd.in/dUFyRsGJ (Disclaimer: This recording took place just after the presidential debate between Donald Trump and President Biden and before it became clear that President Biden would retract his nomination.)

For better #Education – right from the start! 🧸 🏗️ 2008 marked the start of a nationwide expansion of #Daycare in Germany. 🔎 Since then, we have also been taking a closer look at the pedagogical quality of #Childcare ... ... and set up the “Forschungskolleg Frühkindliche Bildung” (Research Group on Early Childhood Education) in 2009. We wanted to qualify excellent young academics in this field who research and teach at the university and applied sciences level. ... and we initiated “WiFF – Advancing Further Education of Early Childhood Professionals” – together with the Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung and the Deutsches Jugendinstitut (DJI). Our aim: to promote the professionalization of early childhood educators. 🎓💡 ➡️ All the milestones of our 60-year history: https://lnkd.in/e3YFcRDB #BoschStiftung60 #ElementaryEducation

For the last year, Jessica Bither and I have been thinking about innovations, experimentations, and pilots in migration policy and what a real and more appropriate sense of “control” should look like. I am very happy that our paper is published now! Migration policy to meet skills and labour needs has become more liberal in many countries. At the same time, we see increasingly restrictive and harsh measures to deter others – refugees or people seeking a better future – from moving. However, deterrence measures, such as detaining people or outsourcing asylum responsibilities, only give an illusion of control. The overemphasis on deterrence also leaves us woefully unprepared for the challenges of tomorrow. Migration will become more complex and uncertain. The examples that we analyse point to core building blocks of a system that more sustainably and humanely orders migration. A more compelling way forward is to let go of a narrow understanding of “control” and to embrace flexible instruments, the interplay of different measures, and options for migrants. Many thanks to Susan Fratzke, Astrid Ziebarth, and Raphaela Schweiger for their most helpful comments and suggestions on an earlier version of the paper, to Nicolas Bouchet for providing more clarity and structure to our writing, to Cha P. for the wonderful illustration, to mischen and Sophie Körner for the appealing design and layout, and to my communications colleagues Julia Rommel, Kerstin Lohse-Friedrich, and Jonas Traudes for all their support in realizing this publication and communicating about it!
