Our CEO, Dr. Frank Heinricht, recently had the honor of meeting with Germany's Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier as part of his active role in the German Science and Humanities Council (Wissenschaftsrat, WR). Established in 1957, the WR is Europe’s oldest science policy advisory body and has been instrumental in shaping an internationally competitive research and higher education system in Germany - especially during the pivotal years of German reunification. Dr. Heinricht's involvement highlights our commitment to advancing science and research. The WR's focus on educational growth, efficiency in science, and the internationalization of research aligns with our values. We believe a strong science and research framework drives both national progress and innovation for companies like ours - fostering a future where scientific excellence and innovation continue to drive our industry forward.

This week, we welcomed a distinguished delegation from Lishui City, Zhejiang Province, #China to our headquarters in #Mainz. 🌏 Lishui holds a special place in our hearts as it is home to one of our #glass tubing production sites as well as one of SCHOTT Pharma’s manufacturing sites. As China is one of our key focus regions, this visit provided a fantastic opportunity to strengthen our ties and discuss future collaborations. We are proud of our state-of-the-art facilities in Lishui and the dedicated teams that ensure we continue to deliver excellence for the pharma industry. 🎉 What an achievement! We were recognized with the Sustainability Championship Award 2024🏆 For our #sustainability🌱 engagement, we were honored once again and received the prestigious Sustainability Championship Award at the Sustainability Congress in Berlin last week. We emerged victorious in the "Supply Chain" category. Other acknowledged finalists were Mercedes-Benz AG, BASF, and Schaeffler. Congrats also to the winners SAARSTAHL RAIL in the category “Circularity” and Fresenius Kabi in “Energy Transformation.” Our ambitious goal of becoming carbon-neutral in our production by 2030 is complemented by decarbonizing our supply chain and reducing the risk of human rights violations and environmental hazards. We worked together with over 140 key suppliers and introduced an AI-supported solution for supplier risk monitoring. Oliver Spika and Dr. Martin Bleider received the award on behalf of the dedicated purchasing teams and supporting colleagues from the business units and functions. 📖 𝗕𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗮 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸! 📖 📚 Our former colleague Peter Hartmann has been greatly missed at our company since he retired in 2018 after a 33-year career with our Advanced Optics business unit. That’s why we were excited to welcome him back to Mainz this week to share his latest work written specifically for the optics community, “ZERODUR® and Optical Glass in High-Stress Applications,” published by SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics. 🔍 As an expert with numerous scientific papers to his name, Peter devoted most of his career to optical glass and ZERODUR® glass ceramic in various positions at Advanced Optics. In response to a customer request, he began breaking numerous ZERODUR® glass ceramic tiles to enhance the data on their breakage behavior. In his new book, he takes a deep dive into the mechanical strength of ZERODUR® and optical glass, which are both critical materials for optical systems. His book provides insights on the stress limits that prevent surface breakage and offers a validated model for predicting the lifetime of these materials under environmental fatigue. It also covers key methodologies, including a stress measurement method and correlations with properties like Knoop hardness and fracture toughness, and provides practical recommendations for improving strength in design. 💙 Our review is in: we think it’s a must-read for anyone in optics and material science!

We were honored to welcome Brian Heath, the new Consul General at the U.S. Consulate General in Frankfurt, Germany, to our headquarters in Mainz today! During the visit, our CEO, Dr. Frank Heinricht, had the pleasure of showcasing our innovative technologies and discussing future opportunities with Mr. Heath. Our guests took a tour of the production of our renowned CERAN® glass-ceramic cooktops, gaining insights into how we drive innovation together with our customers. The United States is one of our key focus regions, and we see tremendous potential for growth and collaboration. With six sites across the #US, we are deeply committed to our core markets, including health/medtech, energy, aviation, astro and space, semiconductor and datacom, and home and living.
