True heroes marking the milestone (II) "Not only facing the complex geology of the Taiwan Strait, which differs significantly from Europe, but the OWF Yunlin team also tackled every challenge step-by-step with determined resolve," said Jason Wang, Deputy Heads of EPC Management APAC at Skyborn Renewables. Since 2019, Jason joined OWF Yunlin as Cable Project Manager. This year, he took additional responsibility as lead local stakeholders technical manager, communicating installation methods and progress with stakeholders, e.g. the authorities, EIA&EBL reviewers, local enterprises and residents. Jason and Team witnessed and experienced the engineering, pandemic, financial restructuring, and subsequent challenges of the Yunlin Wind Farm. "Yet together, we faced them head-on, adapting collaboratively to find effective solutions. Among us were colleagues working 24-hour shifts for construction, colleagues responding promptly to public feedback, colleagues advocating for project development, and colleagues steadfastly managing logistical operations... OWF Yunlin tirelessly regained momentum amidst adversity, established invaluable work methods from lessons learned, and installed turbine after turbine in the ocean!" Jason believes that the "Taiwan Wind Power Team," with its robust project management capabilities, has thus been firmly established! We take actions powered by determined resolve at heart. 80 MPs installed & 42 WTGs energized! True heroes marking the milestone (I) Michael Renner is the Package Manager for the WTGs in the OWF Yunlin. Along with his team, his mission is to collaborate closely with the main contractor SGRE to safely install and commission the WTGs in the Taiwan Strait, delivering green electricity to the homes of Taiwan! "The entire process is full of challenges in terms of technical, logistical and environmental factors" Michael shares. OWF Yunlin marks Taiwan's first deployment of earthquake-resistant and typhoon-proof 8MW WTGs in the Taiwan Strait. The installed WTG reaches a tip height of 196.2 meter which is comparable to the height of a 50-storey building. With the tower, the nacelle and three blades adding up to a total weight of approximately 975 tonnes per WTG, these colossal components require the precise execution of hundreds of heavy lift operations. Towers must be erected and finalized close to a quay. Components weighing several hundred tonnes or reaching a hundred meters in length must be handled on space-limited sites or even on installation vessels. These challenges are compounded by Taiwan's unique environmental conditions: extreme currents challenging vessel operations, heavy rainfall, high winds, and intense heat that affect site operations, and the threat of major earthquakes, and typhoons. "The major earthquake on April 3, 2024, left a particularly deep impression on me; it was not easy to deal with such a situation," Michael reflects. Despite this, the project team remained calm and, together with SGRE overcame the challenges with expertise and a strong work ethic. The 2024 installation campaign of the Yunlin Offshore Wind Farm (OWF) continues to make significant progress: The project team has completed the installation of all 80 monopiles (MPs) and has successfully connected over half (42) wind turbine generators (WTG) to the grid, achieving significant milestones of the project! With an energised capacity of 336 MW, the project already stands as Taiwan's fourth largest completed OWF. The Yunlin OWF is the pioneering project in Taiwan. All manufacturing and localization objectives have been achieved according to requirements and with high quality. We appreciate the continuous support from the Taiwanese government in all aspects of the project. The project team will continue to work closely with all partners to steadily advance the finalization of the OWF, which is on track to complete the installation of 80 WTGs by the end of 2024. So far, the project team has installed all 80 monopiles, along with 72 transition pieces, 55 WTGs, 42 inner array grid and all 12 export cables. The Yunlin OWF project is a top priority for Skyborn Renewables and its partners, delivering electricity under two 20-year power purchase agreements. Once completed, this 640 MW project will power over 600,000 Taiwanese households. Located in the Taiwan Strait, the Yunlin OWF is already making a significant impact, having fed over 1.4 TWh of renewable energy into the grid! Pooki Offshore Wind Farm takes flight – seabed surveys begin. The arrival of a survey vessel marks the official start of the active development phase for Skyborn's Pooki offshore wind project. MEWO, a leading seabed survey company, will be gathering crucial data for us throughout 2024. These surveys will provide crucial data for both technical planning and the upcoming environmental impact assessment (EIA) process. Great News from Sweden 💛 💙 EYSTRASALT RECEIVES RECOMMENDATION FROM THE COUNTY ADMINISTRATIVE BOARD Today, the County Administrative Board in Gävleborg announced its decision to recommend the construction of the offshore wind farm Eystrasalt, 60 km off the coast of Hudiksvall. With a production capacity of up to 15 TWh, it is one of the largest offshore wind farms in Sweden that is currently awaiting a final approval from the Swedish government.
