At the AM Summit in Copenhagen. I'm looking forward to a day with interesting discussions about how Asgaard Metals can help reduce CO2 emission in tool steel production by 90%. And produce superior tool steel at the same time. Both in solid form and as powder for additive manufacturing (3D Printing) #amsummit #asgaardmetals

Circular Production of Steel Billets and Metal Powder through Spray Forming
Om os
Conventional powder production causes vast environmental impacts, thus limiting the overall sustainability of Metal Additive Manufacturing. At Asgaard Metals, we aim to decarbonize the feedstock production for Additive Manufacturing. We are minimizing the environmental footprint by using the superior resource efficiency of Spray Forming, establishing closed-loop circular economies, and exclusively using green Nordic electricity.

Saturday the 16th of March Denmark reached our Overshoot day (Overshoot Day marks the date when humanity's demand for ecological resources and services exceeds what Earth can regenerate). 12 days EARLIER than in 2023. The world Overshoot Day moved from August 2nd in 2023 to July 25th 2024. Despite all the plans, discussions, fancy PowerPoint presentations etc. we are moving in the wrong direction. https://lnkd.in/gKs9tsgN At Asgaard Metals we work on recycling high-end steel in a circular process. According to The World Counts 40% of all steel types are NOT being reused. That accounts for 725 Mill Tons of steel being wasted and replaced by natural steel resources. The reuse percentage is significantly lower for high-end steel types as it requires detailed sorting of the scrap steel. At Asgaard Metals we produce high quality steel using a technology called Spray Forming. With that technology we can not only turn your scrap steel into new steel with an even higher quality compared to what we receive. We can also reduce CO2 emissions with up to 95% compared to conventional steel production (according to a Life Cycle Analysis from SDU - University of Southern Denmark).

A by-product turned into the world's first knives made with #3Dprinting in high-strength tool #steel 🔪 This happened in a development project from MADE - Manufacturing Academy of Denmark, where Danish steel producer Asgaard Metals received help from DTU - Technical University of Denmark and the #additivemanufacturing specialists from Teknologisk Institut 🤝 - Previously, this type of steel (SS440C) has not been printed because of its low flexibility, and the hign amount of carbon that forms soot during the process. Therefore, it becomes too hard for the printer, and you risk a crash, says AM specialist at the Danish Technological Institute, Karl Frederik Færch Fischer 🌟 In the project, he helped Asgaard Metals find the right parameters for 3D printing the industrial knives. With AM, it has been possible to create cavities in the knives, making them lighter, while also improving material properties so that the knives last longer 💪 According to Thomas Dahmen, Head of Technology at Asgaard Metals, another advantage is that the process is greener than you usually see with 3D printing: “The carbon footprint is about 75% lower than conventional powder for 3D printing. This is due to both the method we use, but also that it is a by-product and not made of virgin material” 💚 Read the whole story below (in Danish - so use #AI/translation if you must 😉), where you can also see a video from the project 👇📽 https://lnkd.in/dt9bBxP8

May we introduce to you: The versatile “𝗧𝗛𝗢𝗥𝟰𝟰”! 🤗 𝗧𝗛𝗢𝗥𝟰𝟰 is a modified 440C grade martensitic stainless steel for 3D #printing developed by Asgaard Metals and processed by our Aconity𝙈𝙄𝘿𝙄. Due to its chemical composition, this Fe-based alloy is known for its high corrosion and wear resistance with a high toughness at the same time. Due to the relatively high carbon content of up to 1.2 % this #alloy is hardenable up to 63 HRC, which makes this material the hardest tool steel in the #LPBF market* at approx. 50 % higher thermal conductivity compared to M300. Additionally, no harmful to health Cobalt and Nickel is contained. This combination of properties makes this material not only ideally suited for #knife applications. Also, this material can be used in applications like roller bearings, valve parts, gears, dies and injection molds, food processing tools or surgical instruments. #𝗧𝗛𝗢𝗥𝟰𝟰 powder is made from Spray Forming at Asgaard Metals – a sustainable alternative to gas atomization. The knives were designed by Morsø Jernstøberi A/S, a traditional Danish design company. 👉 For further information reach out to Martin Buscher or Marco Beckers, who will also be at Formnext - Where ideas take shape next week.
