“OUT OF SIGHT, OUT OF MIND” AT THE CABINETMAKER’S AUTUMN EXHIBITION Designed and crafted in a collaboration between manufacturer, Fritz Hansen and designer, Chris Liljenberg Halstrøm, the Out of Sight, Out of Mind bench is a reinterpretation of a traditional Scandinavian wooden bench with a hinged seat for storage. “At first glance, ‘Out of Sight, Out of Mind’ may feel familiar, yet it introduces new forms and materials that make it an entirely modern piece. It speaks to the core values of Scandinavian design—simplicity, functionality, and beauty—while offering a new way to think about space and storage in the modern home.” – Chris Liljenberg Halstrøm Read the full story of the collaboration that created the Out of Sight, Out of Mind bench here: https://lnkd.in/dQEXAGq2 Please note that the Out of Sight, Out of Mind bench is a single piece produced for exhibition only and is not currently in production. The Cabinetmakers’ Autumn Exhibition 2024 takes place in Copenhagen from 5th – 27th October 2024.

The Cutter series offers calm and sophistication in busy spaces, making it ideal for hallways and functional areas. Originally designed in 1999 by Niels Hvass, the minimalist Cutter Bench was created for museums to blend into its surroundings without distracting from the space. This focus on simplicity and precision is at the core of the entire series. Crafted from FSC-certified wood, each piece minimises waste through efficient production techniques. "Standard measurements of raw timber have been taken into account, so material wasted is absolutely minimised," says Hvass. Precision-crafted finger joints enhance both strength and the design’s clean, understated beauty. Since the original bench, the series has grown to include storage boxes, coat racks, and more—bringing elegance and practicality to even the busiest corners of the home. “OUT OF SIGHT, OUT OF MIND” A hands-on collaboration between designer Chris Liljenberg Halstrøm and Fritz Hansen for the Cabinetmaker’s Autumn Exhibition. “It’s increasingly rare to find the kind of collaboration between designer and manufacturer where hands-on craftsmanship meets creative vision in the workshop”, says Chris, “Yet this is exactly what happened in this project.” Fritz Hansen has a legacy of collaborations stretching back over 150 years, partnering with visionaries like Arne Jacobsen and Poul Kjærholm. Techniques learned over time found a way to the Out of Sight, Out of Mind bench. For example, for the curves of the seat and backrest, they looked to Arne Jacobsen’s Oxford chair. And the use of “snake eyes” screws are a nod to Poul Kjærholm’s PK91 chair. The result is more than simply a functional bench; it’s a quiet revolution as a humble and traditional piece of furniture is reimagined for modern living. It carries with it a respect for tradition and a desire to push boundaries. All in all, a fitting tribute to the exhibition’s theme of (R)evolution. Read the full story of the collaboration that created the Out of Sight, Out of Mind bench here: https://lnkd.in/dQEXAGq2 Please note that the Out of Sight, Out of Mind bench is a single piece produced for exhibition only and is not currently in production. The Cabinetmakers’ Autumn Exhibition 2024 takes place in Copenhagen from 5th – 27th October 2024.
