🌬️With China Wind Power taking place this week, it’s been an exciting experience for Global Wind Organisation's Jakob Lau Holst, CEO, and Haiqing W., Market Analyst, to engage with the industry community gathered at the China International Exhibition Center (Shunyi Hall) in Beijing. 🦺Yesterday, live training exercises delivered by Goldwind took place in the exhibition hall, as part of a jointly organised safety and training demonstration zone. 🤝Today, Global Wind Organisation will co-sign a membership agreement and MOU with Mingyang Smart Energy . Jakob commented: “China's cumulative wind power installation has reached 500 GW, an impressive milestone achieved by those in the wind industry over the past 30 years. Though systematic and standardised training is still in its nascent stages in China, there is a growing understanding of its value, with industry leaders committed to making an investment in it.” 📷Stay posted for more updates and photos from the event!

🌴It’s Tuesday morning here in Orlando and our guests are being cared for while they wait for an opportunity to fly out of storm Milton’s way. Counting the GWO Secretariat team, there’s 80 of us here and it’s great to be able to run an adjusted programme for our intrepid guests. We began with a workforce discussion introduced by Jakob Lau Holst, in conversation with GWO board members Wesley Witt and John Barrie. 🚀Engagement remains high, as we delve into what is most exciting about learning tech in an interactive session with Donald H Taylor, our keynote speaker. We are currently exploring the L&D Landscape in 2024 and how AI can support content production. 👏Let’s say a huge well done to everyone who has made it here today in these unique circumstances and demonstrated their steadfast investment in our wind workforce!

Regrettably, owing to extreme weather events, we are now forced to cancel the GWO Safety & Training Forum in Orlando, Florida. The safety and wellbeing of our attendees is our top priority. If you have not yet begun your travels, we urge you to remain at home. At 2pm Eastern Time, The National Hurricane Centre upgraded the status of Hurricane Milton to Category 5. Reports have also confirmed that Orlando Airport will close to commercial flights on Wednesday 9th October. We have been reassured by our hosts at the Renaissance Hotel, that guests who are already here will be safe and that that they have all possible mitigations in place. For those who have arrived in Orlando already, the GWO team will maintain our presence at the Renaissance Hotel, and we will conduct a shortened programme Tuesday 8th October. We will also maintain our planned social event this evening, 7th October. You will receive further information regarding refunds and cancellations in due course. For up-to-date information on the weather conditions, please refer to the National Hurricane Centre web site.

📢Supporting Workforce development in Vietnam! This week, GWO met with representatives from a Vietnamese delegation of policymakers at the Maersk Training centre in Esbjerg, Denmark. This visit served as part of a wider study tour which the Danish Energy Agency had arranged, giving delegates from a variety of public institutions in Vietnam the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the offshore wind industry landscape in Denmark. Sergei Perapechka, Strategic Partnerships Developer, and Eduardo González Meneses, Network Development Manager (EMEA), introduced GWO as an organisation, presented its suite of standards and how they are implemented and discussed the prospects for workforce development in Vietnam for the emerging wind industry. Our takeaway from the day? 🎯We will continue to engage further in the early-stage partnership development discussion, working with governments and policymakers to enable the green energy transition from a workforce skills development angle.
