Designer thoughts, reflecting on 3daysofdesign in Copenhagen ☀️ Beyond our own exhibition, our Design & Range team explored the entire fair, gathering fresh inspiration and insights. Here are their reflections… Louise reflects on the power of collaboration: "The theme for this year's 3 Days of Design was "Dare to Dream." As part of the Lifestyle & Design Cluster, we embraced this theme by focusing on circularity and daring to envision bold possibilities within circular economy. My reflections centered on how collaboration can enhance our collective impact. Numerous brands and product designers have been investigating ways to utilise resources more effectively to create superior products for the planet. For instance, AKUART A/S has developed a frame made entirely from recycled aluminium, and Søuld is employing abundant seagrass to manufacture acoustic panels. Functionality and beauty does not need to be compromised, as demonstrated by a:gain’s flooring, crafted from accumulated wood cut-offs from pine window frames. I captured that the industry is moving beyond simple upcycling, instead we are in the beginning to establish circular loops. Over time, circular processes are becoming the predominant choice. Majken appreciates the blend of old and new: "Being a Dane you can sometimes take for granted how beautiful a city like Copenhagen is and how it really sets the scene for the 3 design days as a capital in the Nordics. I was fascinated by how classic design pieces were displayed in contemporary settings, reflecting our creative direction at NORNORM. This blend of timeless classics in modern, fast-paced offices is an interesting contrast and a trend we will see more of." Nilla enjoys the playful creativity: "I loved the playfulness in design and showroom interiors. Objects created with curiosity can bring a lot of energy to environments. Also, it seems like we’re not done with bringing nature into our interiors. Trees, raw logs, rough rocks, bird song, and even oxygen are still going strong, and maybe taking up even a bigger part of our interiors.” Mathilde considers the future of AI and VR in design: "The theme of AI and VR’s future influence on design sparked some interesting discussions. While these technologies unlock amazing opportunities, like those we explore at NORNORM, we must balance what's possible with what's meaningful, ensuring responsible adaptations to avoid compromising the purposeful human aspect of design.” These reflections drive our dedication to leading in circular design. NORNORM closes financing from Santander CIB guaranteed by the European Investment Fund (EIF) to fuel expansion in Europe Copenhagen, Denmark July 1, 2024 – NORNORM, the leading provider of circular workplace furniture solutions, announces it has closed financing with Santander Corporate & Investment Banking (Santander CIB) and the European Investment Fund (EIF), securing a significant debt facility to boost growth. This collaboration reinforces NORNORM's commitment to driving sustainable growth and innovation in the furniture subscription industry while advancing circular economy initiatives. With over 350,000 square metres of workspace furnished and an impressive 50% annual growth in contracted square metres for 2023, NORNORM's strong business fundamentals are evident. The company is well-positioned to tap into the burgeoning office furniture market, estimated at EUR 201 billion, leveraging its innovative approach to office furniture and circular economy principles. NORNORM benefits from support from the European Union under the InvestEU fund. This financing, alongside previous funding totaling €110M, empowers NORNORM to expand its market reach to the UK, France, and Germany, enhance its business model, innovate and revolutionise the office furniture landscape. NORNORM, a Nordic scale-up business, is committed to sustainable growth and sets a new standard for responsible business practices in the furniture subscription industry through its furniture-as-a-service model that has attracted thousands of customers, including Electrolux, Volvo and Netflix. Santander CIB spearheaded the debt financing round while the EIF played a crucial role in supporting NORNORM's growth by providing financial backing. Highlights included RISE Research Institutes of Sweden's Round Table on "Circular Business Logic - the Future 'License to Operate'," Skanska's private dinner focused on sustainability, and Nasdaq's dinner party, culminating in a grand finale at the Techarenan mingle at Kallis! CIRCULAR BREAKFAST X ALMEDALEN During our Circular Breakfast, co-hosted with Eidra, we emphasised the profitability of circular business models and their necessity for a sustainable future. 🌍 Circular principles and tech can drive innovation and attract talent. 🌍 Building sustainable models is crucial for long-term success for next startup generation to attract funding and talent. 🌍 Collaboration across industries is essential to advance circularity. Boat tours, rooftop pool parties, and top-notch networking - just another week in the office 🤝 Our Dutch team has been on fire these past couple of weeks, diving into some of the most significant events in the region. Here's a quick rundown of what we've been up to: 🌐 PROVADA: The largest real estate fair in the Netherlands - Boat tour: We partnered with Healthy Workers to host a boat tour through the picturesque Amsterdam canals. For 3 hours, we mingled, soaked in the views, and ended with a silent disco 🎧 - Rooftop pool party: Midweek, we threw a rooftop pool party at the newly opened beyond Republica location, in collaboration with infinitSpace and Bob W. Over 100 guests joined us for a splashy celebration (no thanks to the surprise attendance of none other than the rain!) 🌐 TNW 2024 Conference: One of Europe’s largest tech festivals - Circular furniture lounge: We created a comfortable lounge space at TNW, offering a perfect spot for attendees to relax, work, and connect while staying updated on the latest tech trends. - Startup Padel Tour: Earlier in the week, we joined the Startup Padel Tour as part of TNW festivities. We padeled across Europe!! Not the water-based kind of course 😉 Yesterday, NORNORM teams from Stockholm and Amsterdam took to the padel courts for tournaments of epic proportions. Over in Amsterdam, we joined the annual 'Startup Padel Tour' hosted by Robert Jan de Laive and Patrick de Laive. Hats off to Florian Gendrault, CEO of Alleo, for winning the top spot. And of course, a big shoutout to Patrick and Ruben for representing NORNORM on the courts! Meanwhile, in Stockholm, our very own NORNORM padel tournament was in full swing. We've come full circle on an inspiring few days at 3daysofdesign in Copenhagen! Our time at Lifestyle & Design Cluster's CIRCULAR FURNITURE DAYS in the beautiful garden of the iconic Designmuseum Danmark truly showcased the cutting edge of circular innovation, and we're proud to have been a part of it: ✨ We showcased how NORNORM seamlessly blends technology and circular design principles to create a fully circular furniture subscription service. Our interactive exhibition allowed visitors to engage with our solutions firsthand, experiencing how a circular furniture model works at each stage of the loop. ✨ We were delighted to have Umain join us at our exhibition, where visitors got to try out the Apple Vision Pro and design their own furniture layout in 'real' life. This demonstrated how we’re pioneering the integration of tech into sustainable office design. ✨ Our CEO, Anders, joined a dynamic panel discussion on ‘Circularity: How to Make It Work,’ alongside industry leaders Jesper Wøldike Brandt from a:gain and Jarl Engelbrecht Vindnæs from Stykka, moderated by Frederik Thrane from Lifestyle & Design Cluster. The conversation was rich with insights on advancing circularity in design and practice. It was fantastic to meet and discuss with like-minded people at our exhibition, as well as explore the rest of the event and draw inspiration from a design industry continuously setting new benchmarks on what's possible.
