🔐 Let’s breakdown what “secure communication” means for IoT device transmissions. Of course, you want to be as secure as possible — but reliability and efficiency is also crucial especially when you have device limitations (power, data, so on). Secure protocols often create larger data overheads from handshakes, cipher exchanges, certificates, retries on poor connection, etc. 📈 For example, an 11-byte "hello world" message sent via MQTT over a poor cellular connection consumed over 500KB of data! Visualizing security coverage against data volume reveals the tradeoffs (thanks to Waltero’s Kristian Storm, MBA PhD for the info!)
