    🌍Cultural Heritage History Top Models - 2024, week 34 This week, our #3D model of Sääretüki lighthouse was featured on Thomas Flynn's Culutural Heritage History Top Models collection. 👉3D Model: https://skfb.ly/p7VGC The 3D model was crafted by our expert, Andrei Bljahhin, who has been closely involved in working on heritage projects in Estonia. The collection displays the top 3D models for the given week, hand picked by Flynn, these models are to show the capabilities of #digitalization in the #heritage field. 👉 Take a look at the full collection here: https://skfb.ly/p7XBw 3Di has also been working towards a goal of implementing #digitalization in the heritage field, here, in Estonia. Under the project name "Estonian Heritage", we have already scanned and mapped over 90 different heritage locations such a churches, old mansions, ruins and more. We aim to collaborate with Estonia's National Heritage Bond to create a sufficient solution to preserve and enhance the cultural landmarks that define Estonia's rich history. By leveraging 3D scanning (or photgrammetry) and 3D modeling we are committed to maintaining the integrity and beauty of these sites for future generations.     When Siigur Restaurant and the City of Tartu began planning an exclusive new restaurant, they knew the location had to be special. The historic Tartu Cathedral, with its grand architecture, was the perfect choice. The people at KOKO architects took on the challenge of designing a space that would respect the building's rich history while creating a memorable dining experience. ❗However, the cathedral's age and irregular structure posed significant challenges. Built centuries ago, Tartu Cathedral has undergone many changes over time, leading to irregular walls, varying support columns, and crumbling sections. These factors made traditional measurement methods insufficient. To create a design that would fit seamlessly into the cathedral’s unique structure without compromising its historical integrity, KOKO architects needed precise data. This, is where 3Di came in, to help. We had previously done surveying, threw photogrammetry, at the site of Tartu Cathedral. Meaning, 3Di was able to provide KOKO architects with the essential digital twin of the building, which they then could use, to design at a realistic accuracy level. Check out the model of the church here: https://skfb.ly/oIZwA ⚒Tools, which we used: DJI M300 RTK Drone with Zenmuse P1 Camera: Utilized for aerial photogrammetry to capture the larger structure and provide a comprehensive overview. Sony Handheld Camera: Used to capture smaller, intricate details that the drone might have missed. ✨From the collected data, we created: Point Cloud: A detailed 3D representation of the cathedral’s structure, consisting of "points" which are represented by a geometric location, capturing every nuance and irregularity. Mesh Model: A high-resolution digital twin that accurately reflects the cathedral's unique architectural features. The mesh model is what was used to provide KOKO architects with the precise information they needed to design a space that integrates perfectly with the cathedral’s complex unorthodox structure, all while preserving its historical integrity.     🤔 What mysterious mist is this? This is a point cloud in the aggregate model. The point cloud simplifies construction organization by combining it with the project model and crane lifting zones. With it, you can see if a crane can lift materials from a temporary road (which is not in the project but is in the point cloud) to the right place on the construction site from a vehicle parked on it.     👨💻 We can predict the future! At the start of this year, the Paldiski cliffside collapsed, destroying a popular viewpoint and creating a rather dangerous situation. Could this have been predicted? ✅Absolutely. This incident highlights the crucial need for advanced methods in predicting and preventing such hazards. But what if we already have the tools to do so? Long before the collapse, our team at 3Di conducted an aerial survey of the cliff using the DJI Matrice 300 RTK, equipped with a P1 35mm camera. Reviewing our models, we observed that the faults and areas of instability were detectable back then, indicating a potential collapse was inevitable. ⛰ Take a look at the before model of the cliff: https://skfb.ly/oPPIZ Our survey revealed critical faults in the structure, including visible cracks in the cliffside. This demonstrates how early detection through modern surveying can provide crucial information for timely interventions and safety measures. In addition to our efforts, the TalTech Estonian Maritime Academy Waterway Safety research group (Dr. Inga Zaitseva-Pärnaste and Dr. Heiko Herrmann) has been monitoring changes of the Pakri cliff since 2015. Their ongoing research provides invaluable data on coastal dynamics. By combining their expertise with advanced technologies, they have significantly contributed to the safety and preservation of the coastal environment here, in Estonia. 📹 Before and after video animated by Andrei Bljahhin Watch the video comparing the cliff before and after the collapse. It was very fortunate that no one was present at the viewpoint that day. Science and technology, when used the correct way, can indeed predict the future.     Check out this digital twin of Puski Church we created. In the video, you’ll see the church tower standing tall but missing its iconic bell. This is because the bell was previously missing for 50 years. The bell is now rightfully returned to its tower, but don´t you sometimes wish you could roll back time to check out previous stages of construction? ✨THIS IS WHY DIGITAL TWINS ROCK! Digital twins are like having a time machine for historical sites.     ✨ Renovating apartment buildings in Ukraine "Estonian Centre for International Development (ESTDEV) launched a collaboration project with Tallinn University of Technology, which aims to roll out prefabricated deep renovations of the apartment buildings in Zhytomyr, Ukraine." An important initiative for the thermal modernization of three multi-story buildings, funded by the Estonian government, has begun. These buildings are now undergoing a thorough inspection, which marked the first phase of the project's implementation. The inspection involves using drones, 3D scanners and photographic equipment to identify the properties and condition of the apartment buildings. 👉 This was carried out by our teams' experts, Vaiko Veeleid and Kristjan Lauge. This project aims to support the European Union's set Energy Efficiency Directive for 2030 and help lower energy consumption and heating costs, helping to improve the living conditions of residents and reduce the overall negative environmental impact. 🤝 Estonia's support for Ukraine has been significant and should serve as an example for other countries. However, we must also address our own challenges at home. Currently, Estonia is not meeting the requirements of the Energy Efficiency Directive and needs to renovate three times the current volume of buildings to avoid fines from the European Commission. We have about 54 million square meters of housing that need renovation—a substantial task. At the start of the year, the Kliimaministeerium / Ministry of Climate of Estonia updated the energy efficiency requirements for buildings to ensure the climate resilience of Estonian buildings and provide a more accurate overview of their energy usage. Increasing the volume of renovation projects is essential in Estonia, and success depends on mutual cooperation. Our goal should be not only to meet the directive's requirements but also to improve the quality of life for our residents.     What if geodetic surveyors had a pair of helping eyes? 🚀Maybe in the sky..... Take a look at how 3Di utilizes the DJI M300 RTK, equipped with a Zenmuse L1, giving our geodetic surveyors much more flexibility and efficiency when measuring sites. You'll see how the process starts with setting up Ground Control Points (GCPs) and flying the drone over the area. The drone captures detailed images and data, which are then processed into a #pointcloud and #orthomosaic. These tools, combined with the surveyors measurements, help to present more accurate data. Surveyors can check and correct their data, if necessary, as instead of having one source of data information, drones now provide a second pair of eyes for the surveyor. 👉 They save time by mapping large, open areas, allowing surveyors to focus on tricky spots like under trees or around big objects. Surveyors still need to visit the site to measure and mark features that might go unseen for the drone. This ensures that all visible and hidden features, like underground utilities and overhead lines, are accurately mapped and nothing is disregarded. ❓Have you ever used drones for any other purpose than just a joy ride?
