Thrilled to have participated in the 4th Union for the Mediterranean Energy and Climate Business Forum during Cairo Sustainable Energy Week - CSEW. The Forum, organized in collaboration with the Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE), focused on exploring innovative financing solutions and fostering regional collaboration to support sustainable energy transition and climate action across the Mediterranean. It was an honor to be part of the panel alongside Julie Chrysler from Yunus Environment Hub and Mohanad SalahEldin, Regional Director - German Arab Chamber of Industry and Commerce, with the discussion expertly moderated by Dr. Houda BEN JANNET ALLAL, Director General of the OME Observatoire Méditerranéen de l'Energie. Since SwissCham Egypt’s rebranding in 2022 as the Swiss Chamber of Commerce in Egypt, we have remained dedicated to promoting sustainability. Our participation in COP27 marked a major milestone, offering Swiss companies a platform to showcase their innovative environmental projects and reaffirming Switzerland’s commitment to sustainability. At SwissCham Egypt, we are committed to driving impactful change through a range of initiatives, including B2G and B2B meetings, roundtable discussions, events, and capacity-building programs. These activities are designed to transfer knowledge, create a bigger impact, and most importantly, link local companies with best practices and international counterparts to inspire sustainable innovations. A special thank you to our valued partners in ABB, Lafarge Egypt, and Geocycle Egypt جيوسايكل مصر, whose contributions to the chamber's activities have enriched my speech with real-life examples of on-the-ground achievements in Egypt. Their work in Egypt highlights the importance of impactful implementation in advancing sustainable development. As we look to the future, we’re excited to continue fostering dialogue between businesses, governments, and the public, and to bring more sustainable solutions to Egypt through upcoming trade missions and collaborations. We extend our heartfelt thanks to our strategic partner, Influence Public Affairs (IPA), for hosting the successful roundtable discussion on 'Data Privacy Law No. 151 of 2020.' Through our MOU with IPA, we were able to extend invitations to some of our esteemed members, including Novartis, Nestlé, and Roche. We greatly value the insightful contributions made during the discussion, which continues to promote meaningful dialogue and drive positive change across the business landscape.
IPA recently convened a high-level strategic roundtable on Data Privacy Law No. 151/2020, themed "Turning Regulation into Action: Bridging Policy and Practice in Egypt’s Data Privacy Landscape", moderated by our Director, Walid Ramadan. This event brought together key stakeholders from both the public and private sectors to explore Egypt’s evolving data privacy landscape. Dr. Suzanne El Akabaoui, Advisor to the Minister of Communications and Information Technology for Data Governance, delivered the keynote address, highlighting the government’s commitment to robust data governance. Dr. Mohamed Hegazy a prominent expert in digital transformation legislation, contributed valuable insights on the law's implementation, while Dr. Maha Abdel Nasser , the notable member of the Parliament's Communication Committee, offered a legislative viewpoint, emphasizing the law's alignment with future regulatory frameworks. Industry leaders from various sectors actively participated, including representatives from PepsiCo in the food industry, Novartis and Roche in pharmaceuticals, talabat and Chefaa in e-commerce, Educatly in education, EFG Holding in finance, and ICT giants like Microsoft and Huawei Technologies. FinTech players, including Valu, alongside FMCG, Nestlé and startups also engaged in the discussions. Together, they explored ways to harmonize regulatory policies with business operations to enhance data governance. Dr. Al-Aqabaoui also shared updates on the anticipated issuance of executive regulations for the Data Privacy Law. Key topics included data storage protocols, cross-border data transfers, and the need for regulatory frameworks that attract cloud-hosting investments. Article 40’s implementation and its impact were also addressed. Business leaders expressed concerns about the overlap between the Data Privacy Law and other regulations, particularly the E-Tax Law, and discussed the potential implications for compliance. They stressed the need for these laws to operate in synergy to ensure seamless business operations. The session highlighted the importance of raising stakeholder awareness to ensure alignment with the law and called for ongoing public-private dialogue to enhance data protection practices. The roundtable concluded with a call for a comprehensive policy paper to prevent regulatory conflicts and ensure cohesion with existing laws. #IPA #PublicPolicy #PublicAffairs #Governance #DataPrivacy #DigitalTransomration #Regulations #TechPolicy #CloudHosting #LegalFrameworks #Fintech #ICT #FMCG #ECommerce #Pharma Influence Group
