UNDP Resident Representative Alessandro Fracassetti met with Local Development Minister Dr. Manal Awad to discuss progress on our EU-funded project, aimed at enhancing decentralization and integrated #localdevelopment in Upper Egypt, focusing on impactful programs across Fayoum, Beni Suef, Luxor and Aswan.

A valued and strategic partnership! MSMEDAEG and UNDP have worked side by side since 1991 to create jobs, support small businesses and serve the MSME sector across #Egypt 🇪🇬 Together, over EGP 27.5 billion in loans were disbursed to more than 900,000 MSMEs, creating nearly 4 million job opportunities. Under the leadership of UNDP Resident Representative Alessandro Fracassetti and MSMEDA CEO Bassel Rahmy with Governor of #Aswan General Dr. Ismail Kamal, the partnership led to the renovation of a key health center, enhancing healthcare services for the local community and serving more than 2,000 people.

In #Aswan, a newly renovated Karkar Health Unit was officially opened today by the Governor of Aswan, General Dr. Ismail Kamal, UNDP Resident Representative Alessandro Fracassetti & MSMEDAEG CEO Bassel Rahmy in presence of Dr Amr Lashin, Deputy Governor, UNDP and MSMEDA teams. The health unit provides essential healthcare services to more than 2,000 people from the local communities and Sudanese refugees—a vital step in enhancing health access, strengthening resilience and improving livelihoods in Aswan’s local communities. The renovated health unit, funded by UNDP in partnership with MSMEDA, not only improves healthcare access but also provided over 9,800 labor-day opportunities, injecting EGP 2.5 million into the local economy. An engaging awareness session in Karkar village was also held for local community leaders & beneficiaries, focusing on employing women through health care initiatives. During a visit to #Aswan, UNDP Resident Representative Alessandro Fracassetti, with a UNDP Egypt team, met with Governor General Dr. Ismail Kamal. They discussed ongoing local development initiatives,aimed at improving livelihoods and supporting the governorate’s 2030 strategy. Key topics also included expanding #solarenergy use and supporting the resilience of communities hosting refugees.

UNDP Egypt hosted an interactive and critical workshop to promote #artificialintelligence (#AI) for sustainable development in #Africa. The event brought together key ICT partners and the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), Egypt, to co-create the AI Hub for Sustainable Development. Abeer Shakweer, UNDP Assistant Resident Representative, opened the session, presenting UNDP's key digital priorities and the prioritization of AI as a key enabler. Dr. Ahmed Tantawy, Senior Advisor to Minister at MCIT, presented the vision for the Applied Innovation Center, with a focus on AI-driven projects in healthcare, agriculture, and urban planning. The workshop, moderated by Nezar Sami, UNDP Project Manager, aimed to: 1️⃣ Present the AI hub for sustainable development 2️⃣ Co-design the strategy with local stakeholders 3️⃣ Align initiatives with national priorities 4️⃣ Identify new cooperation opportunities This is the first step toward implementing AI solutions to address critical challenges across sectors.

At the Cultural Salon of the Institute of National Planning | معهد التخطيط القومى (INP) Egypt, Dr. Ashraf Al Arabi, President of INP, hosted Abdallah Al Dardari, Regional Director of UNDP in the Arab States region for a strategic dialogue on key regional issues. The discussion focused on development needs, the Humanitarian, Development and Peace Nexus, the impact of conflicts on livelihoods, and the urgent need for integrated solutions to strengthen resilience across the region.

Today, UNDP Egypt Resident Representative Alessandro Fracassetti signed a new Memorandum of Understanding with Dr. Mamdouh El Araby, Vice Chaiman of El Araby Group, on behalf of Eng. Ibrahim El Araby, chairman of Egypt-Japan Business Council & Chairman of El Araby Group the Egypt, representing the Japan Business Council, witnessed by H.E. Hassan El Khatib, Minister of Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade, Ambassador of Embassy of Japan in Egypt H.E. Hiroshi Oka and the Chair of the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI) Dr. Hossam Heiba. Together we will work to promote sustainable development and economic growth in Egypt, focusing on key areas such as renewable energy, water management and digital transformation. Let’s utilize innovative solutions and initiatives that promote social and economic development and drive positive change and progress in Egypt.
