The EUIPO - European Union Intellectual Property Office is an international registration authority responsible for the registration of craft and industrial geographical indications (GIs) as of 2025. It supports regional intellectual property offices in the development of GIs in Africa through the EU cooperation project #AfrIPI From fine wines and artisanal cheeses to fragrant spices and handmade textiles, products eligible for Geographical Indications (GIs) are rooted in tradition and linked to a specific place. Great strides, Nigeria! 🇳🇬 The EUIPO - European Union Intellectual Property Office, an international registration authority responsible for the registration of craft and industrial geographical indications (GIs) as of 2025, through the EU-funded #AfrIPI project, has been working closely for over three years with the National Technical Working Group on Nigeria Geographical Indications, in collaboration with various stakeholders, including the Nigeria Trademarks Registry. As a result, Nigeria has reached a significant milestone in intellectual property promotion and protection with the formal submission of the draft Geographical Indications (GI) Bill to the Honourable Minister of the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole. This submission highlights Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening its intellectual property system and supporting local producers of unique products. Geographical Indications (GIs) play a key role in adding value to agri-foods and hold great potential for supporting Nigerian export diversification. 🌍🚀 #IntellectualProperty #GIs #Trade #IP4Africa European Union Delegation to the Federal Republic of Nigeria and ECOWAS Africa International Trade & Commerce Research Nigeria AfCFTA Coordination Office Nigeria Governors' Forum Secretariat Government of Nigeria
