THE HUMAN FACTOR - Automated vehicles must navigate complex environments, make split-second decisions, and interact seamlessly with human drivers. However, one of the biggest challenges in testing automated driving systems is representing human driving behavior accurately. Human drivers exhibit unpredictable reactions, unique decision-making processes, and varying levels of experience. As a result, creating a comprehensive testing environment for automated cars requires a system that accurately mirrors the real world and its human factors. This is where Aimsun technology and i4Driving come into play! In our latest innovation blog, our scientific researcher, Alkis Papadoulis, explains how the i4Driving researchers captured human driving behavior on real-world test tracks and driving simulators to build a robust dataset to help calibrate a new human driver model that can form the new baseline for autonomous vehicle testing. Transport intersects with philosophy in our upcoming webinar: "Rationality versus Common Misconceptions." Benoit Vedel, Managing Director for Aimsun France, welcomes special guest BROTO André, author of "40 Preconceived Ideas about Transport... and Why They Prevent Us from Moving Forward." They'll discuss the rejection of rationality in transport politics, and the integration of digital solutions and traditional surveys for meaningful evaluation practices and optimised mobility decisions. This includes Aimsun’s simulation and predictive data analysis tools, alongside local surveys (such as EMD from Cerema), national surveys, and commuter data from Insee. As Deputy Minister of Transport, François DUROVRAY, has said: "finding numbers is easy, finding the right numbers and interpreting them is an art that requires a certain amount of discernment and critical thinking," - it is this discernment and critical thinking that will be the focus of our discussions. Sign up for the webinar now! It's totally free and takes less than 30 seconds to register. https://lnkd.in/eEf8yGjy

🪐 Exchanging Data between Aimsun Next and SATURN SATURN is a tool that calculates transport assignment on road networks. In this month's pro tip for transport modellers, we show you how Aimsun Next transport modeling software can exchange data with SATURN either by reading specific input and output SATURN files to build an Aimsun traffic network or by exporting an Aimsun traffic network to write SATURN format files. Our Senior Product Specialist, Dimitris Triantafyllos, gives us a complete step-by-step guide to how it all works: https://lnkd.in/eFMznMCz For SATURN we have to thank Dr Dirck Vliet, the Institute for Transport Studies at the University of Leeds and AtkinsRéalis.

🚶🏻🚴♂️ 🛴🚶♀️👨🦼 Safe integration of active mobility modes into Singapore’s transport ecosystem: In line with the vision of a safe, inclusive and sustainable transport system laid out in the Land Transport Plan 2040, Singapore will make Active Mobility Devices (AMDs) an essential part of its future transport system. A pilot project, which began in February 2022, is using Aimsun transport simulation studies of Bedok-Chai Che, Ang Mo Kio and Marina South neighbourhoods to better understand the impact of AMDs in different environments, from industrial and commuting zones to leisure areas. The study is supported by data from the Land Transport Authority (LTA) Singapore and has provided valuable insights into how potential infrastructural changes - including path widening, signals, lane segregation, intersection slip road removals, etc - could enhance the safety of the interactions between AMDs and other road users. Aimsun is working on the pilot project in collaboration with Yunex Traffic (formerly part of Siemens Mobility), FIA – Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile) and its affiliated club, the Automobile Association of Singapore. The findings from this study are helping to shape future urban and road infrastructure in Singapore, making it a safer and more inclusive city for all. To learn more, contact Karen Cheung.
