A busy day for Biomixing! Biomixing at DES Málaga Last week we were in Madrid at South Summit. This week Biomixing is in Malaga, at DES. Cristina del Carmen, PhD, our CSO has participated at the Deep Tech session invited by Banco Santander and in the afternoon invited by La Salle Technova Barcelona! This gave us the opportunity to making good connections with other companies, investors and interesting people!

👉 DID YOU KNOW THAT THE RUSHTON AGITATORS YOU ARE USING ARE NOT THE BEST FOR YOUR PROCESS? 👉 The agitation and aeration system of fermenters and bioreactors represents a key element that has the greatest impact on their efficiency. Rushton agitators are the most popular, and have been used for more than 50 years in the pharmaceutical and food industries and in the biotechnology sector in general. However, they often have a number of problems, such as insufficient oxygen transfer or shear damage, which make them unsuitable for the vast majority of bioprocesses. In addition, they have a very high energy consumption, which can be of great importance when working in large fermenters or bioreactors. Nowadays, we already have valuable means to optimize the design of agitation and aeration systems, such as CFD numerical simulations and artificial intelligence, which combined with aerodynamics concepts, fluid mechanics and complex mathematical models, can be used to optimize the impellers design to improve the mixing, oxygen transfer or reduce the shear damage inside bioreactors and fermenters. That's what we have done in Biomixing, we have designed a set of Biomixing-Inside agitation/aeration systems (patent pending), which reduce processing times by up to 50% ⌛ and reduce cell damage, with up to 40% less energy consumption   📧 Contact us for more information! -------------------------------- 👉 ¿Sabías que los agitadores Rushton que estás usando en tu biorreactor/fermentador no son los mejores para tu proceso? 👉 El sistema de agitación y aireación de los fermentadores y biorreactores representa un elemento clave y que mayor impacto tiene en su eficiencia. Los agitadores Rushton son los más populares, se llevan utilizando desde hace más de 50 años en la industria farmaceútica, alimenticia y en el sector biotecnológico en general. Sin embargo, con frecuencia presentan una serie de problemas, como insuficiente transferencia de oxígeno o daño de cizalladura, que hacen que no sean los más adecuados en la gran mayoría de bioprocesos. Además, conllevan un consumo energético muy elevado, que puede ser de gran relevancia cuando se trabaja en fermentadores o biorreactores grandes. En la actualidad, disponemos ya de medios valiosos para optimizar el diseño de los sistemas de agitación y aireación, como las simulaciones numéricas CFD o la inteligencia artificial, que combinadas con conceptos de aerodinámica, de mecánica de fluídos y de modelos matemáticos complejos, pueden utilizarse para optimizar la mezcla, la transferencia de oxígeno o el daño de cizalladura en el interior de los biorreactores y fermentadores. 👉Did you know that many fermentation processes could go much faster? Do you know what the problem is? 👇 Although strictly speaking fermentation is an anaerobic process, in industrial fermentation (biomass, metabolites or enzymes), most processes are aerobic, requiring oxygen, in some cases a lot of oxygen. In fact, often, the limiting factor of many industrial fermentations is precisely the lack of oxygen during the process, especially when working in large fermenters or bioreactors. To optimize processing time, it is key to achieve a sufficiently high level of oxygen transfer inside the fermenter, especially during the exponential growth phase. To achieve this, it is not sufficient to inject a higher gas flow rate or to agitate more intensively, as this often leads to a number of problems: - an increase in foaming (even to the point of making the process unviable) - an increase in coalescence (you know, when those little gas bubbles stick together) - an increase in cellular or shear damage. Therefore, the concepts of aerodynamics, fluid mechanics, optimization... become highly relevant when it comes to optimizing oxygen transfer. Our patent-pending Biomixing Inside agitation/aeration systems achieve better mixing and higher gas transfer (up to 90%) without the aforementioned problems, thus reducing processing times. 📧 Contact us for more info! -- ¿Sabías que muchos de los procesos fermentativos podrían ir mucho más rápido? ¿Sabes cual es el problema que tienen? 👇                                                                                          Si bien en sentido estricto la fermentación es un proceso anaerobio, en la fermentación industrial (bioprocesos para producir biomasa, metabolitos o enzimas), la mayoría de los procesos son aerobios, requieren oxígeno, en algunos casos mucho oxígeno. De hecho, con frecuencia, el factor limitante de muchas fermentaciones industriales es precisamente la falta de oxígeno durante el proceso, especialmente cuando se trabaja en fermentadores grandes. Para optimizar el tiempo de proceso, es clave conseguir una transferencia de oxígeno suficientemente alta en el interior del fermentador especialmente durante la fase de crecimiento exponencial. Para conseguirlo no basta con inyectar un mayor caudal de gas ni agitar con más intensidad, pues esto con frecuencia conlleva una serie de problemas: - aumento de espuma hasta el punto de hacer inviable el proceso - aumento de la coalescencia (ya sabes, cuando esas burbujitas de gas se unen unas a otras) - aumento del daño celular o de cizalladura Por ello, los conceptos de aerodinámica, de mecánica de fluídos, de optimización… cobran gran relevancia a la hora de optimizar la transferencia de oxígeno. Nuestros sistemas patentados de agitación/aireación Biomixing Inside, consiguen una mayor transferencia de oxígeno (hasta +90%) sin los problemas mencionados, logrando reducir los tiempos de proceso. 📧 Si quieres saber más ¡contáctanos!

FOOD 4 FUTURE… Just another trade fair? No, no, our time at Food4Future last week was not just another trade show. F4F is an impressive fair that showcases the latest developments in the biotech food industry. We have had the opportunity to meet many innovative startups, talk with investors, with experts in the sector or with representatives of CDTI, ENISA. We shared the stage with companies of the level and enthusiasm of  NUCAPS, COCUUS, QUEVANA, Oscillum, Gimme Sabor (antes Guimarana), Innomy, Let it V Foods, BioProcesia, POSEIDONA, LOV Ferments, Levprot Bioscience, Bread Free and mmmico eats, with many of which we are going to collaborate.    Thanks to all who have made this possible, especially to ICEX for their constant support, in particular to Gaia Amatteis and Dr. Philipp Rittershaus from RootCamp - A SpinLab Company and to Loli Moreno Navarro, María Jesús Abellán Madrid. It is a pleasure to share that BioMixing S.L. has participated through MIT Startup Exchange at a symposium in @CDTI_innovacion (Jose Javier Romero) and at Fundación Ramón Areces in the Symposium "Revolutionizing Healthcare Through Cutting-Edge Research and Technology" organized together with Massachusetts Institute of Technology and MIT Industrial Liaison Program. At the Symposium, Klaus Schleicher, Eduardo Garrido and Catarina Machado Madeira presented the MIT Startup Ecosystem and the MIT Startup Exchange program. Then three MIT faculty, Mark Bathe, Mercedes Balcells-Camps and Daniel G. Anderson, explained their revolutionary research. Finally, BioMixing S.L. participated with other four entrepreneurs of startups of the MIT Startup Exchange: José Wong (Dynocardia, Inc.), Pablo Lapuerta (4M Therapeutics Inc), Carlos Castro González (Leuko), and Heather E. Williams. Both events gave us the opportunity to learn from each other, make contacts and share ideas. It was great!
