Negotiation is among the best known and most used tools for advancing peace and political transition. Yet, the dominant model of the last few decades is built on methodological premises which, in aggregate, produce very slow negotiation. A ‘fast-track’ model is needed to match the more urgent local change needed in the majority of crisis and conflict situations. Join Mark Freeman, Founder and Executive Director of IFIT, as he will be presenting a preliminary draft of the fast-track model via two online talks: 🔹 on November 8th at the IEA de Paris (Paris Institute for Advanced Study): ‘Fast-track negotiation’: a negotiation model for conflicts of the 21st century 👉 You can register here: https://lnkd.in/d5asArJC 🔹 on November 13th at the Harvard Law School Program on Negotiation: Rethinking the Negotiation Paradigm: Introducing “Fast-Track” Negotiation 👉 You can register here: https://lnkd.in/dNFx4S8x 🔗 You can read more about the Initiative on Fast-Track Negotiation: https://lnkd.in/dqEsNnyW #FastTrackNegotiation #IFIT #peace #conflict

The ‘fast-track negotiation’ model - which I referred to in posts earlier this year – will be ready in early 2025. It’s meant to fix a very specific problem, namely, the slow model of political and peace negotiation that has come to dominate theory and practice. A fast-track model is needed to match the more urgent local change needed in the vast majority of crisis and conflict situations. Next month I will be presenting a preliminary draft of the fast-track model via two online talks: 🔹 on November 8th at the IEA de Paris (you can register here: https://lnkd.in/g_KEQzYg ) 🔹 on November 13th at the Harvard Law School Program on Negotiation (you can register here: https://lnkd.in/geVBDxG5 ). The work on the model has been financially supported by the Robert Bosch Stiftung. Critical pro bono research has been provided by CMS law firm and the Harvard Undergraduate Consulting Group. The IEA de Paris (a consortium of the main universities in Paris) has generously awarded me a one-month writing residency and fellowship so that I can finish the drafting. In case you missed it, revisit last month's virtual launch of IFIT’s “Constitution Hill Global Guidelines on Apex Court Appointments”. To mark the occasion and initiate the global dissemination process, we organised an expert panel composed of Mark Freeman (co-convener of the Initiative), Justice Kate O'Regan (Guidelines panel member and Director of the Bonavero Institute at Oxford University) and Beatrice Mtetwa (award-winning human rights lawyer), with moderation by Sujit Choudhry (co-convener of the Initiative). 👉 Watch the full webinar: https://lnkd.in/drS6siqX 🔗 Rear the Guidelines: https://lnkd.in/diXBmDEq #IFIT #SupremeCourt #ApexCourt #ConstitutionalCourt #GlobalGuidelines

IFIT’s “Toolkit for Constructive Dialogue in Polarised Contexts” is designed for societies and political systems marked by #polarisation. It is meant to be used among persons with opposing views on a given topic, where the conversation has devolved into pejorative language and limited listening. Informed by the work of IFIT’s brain trusts in #Colombia and #Mexico, and by IFIT’s Inclusive Narratives Practice Group, the toolkit does not aim to generate agreements but instead to promote viewpoint plurality. For more information, see IFIT’s practice brief on the process of developing the toolkit: https://lnkd.in/dZZgKJnK 🔗 You can also visit IFIT’s Narrative Peacebuilding Hub: https://lnkd.in/gtJm9H6T #IFIT #narratives #OvercomePolarization #BrainTrusts
