On 31 October 2024, SatCen had the honour of welcoming Minister Yuriko Backes, Luxembourg's Minister of Defence. The visit underscored the strong and continued collaboration between Luxembourg and SatCen in advancing European security. During the visit, Minister Backes signed a voluntary contribution of €500,000 to support #SatCen's operational activities, further announcing Luxembourg's commitment to share imagery from its LUXEOSys satellite once it becomes operational. SatCen recently joined the 2024 Strategic Research Agenda for Copernicus Security Service Workshop in Frascati, Italy, organized by the European Commission and hosted by ESA! Alongside Frontex, European Maritime Safety Agency, and Horizon Europe projects, we explored ways to enhance security services and bring research-driven innovations to operational applications. Two SatCen-led pilots were highlighted by Michele Lazzarini, SatCen RTDI Project Manager: a Conflict-Pre Warning Map and Climate-Security pilot, both advancing EU security with data-driven insights. This collaboration underscores our commitment to leveraging new tools like #AI and advanced data processing for Copernicus Service evolution. At the event's conclusion, Denis Bruckert, SatCen Head of Copernicus Unit, provided initial feedback from the Copernicus SESA perspective on the presented projects, highlighting their potential for service evolution in areas like AI integration and advanced data processing, along with steps for operationalization. On 30 October 2024, SatCen had the honour of welcoming Major General Michael Traut, Commander of the German Space Command. The visit focused on enhancing European space and defence capabilities and exploring collaboration opportunities. SatCen was honoured to participate in the Montreal Climate Security Summit, joining the panel on “Data and Climate Security: Enhancing Awareness for Informed Action.” SatCen’s Capability Development Coordinator, Ms. Alessandra Ussorio, highlighted how the Centre is shifting from a reactive to a proactive approach to support strategic foresight regarding EU climate security risks. Furthermore, SatCen will support decision-makers with the new Climate and Environment Security Data and Analysis Hub (CESDA) in cooperation with the European External Action Service, Member States and the European Commission, which will provide an easily accessible repository of information about climate security.   #MCSS2024 #CCASCOE #ClimateSecurity Conference of Defence Associations Institute

On 15-16 October, the SatCen RTDI team attended the 3rd Destination Earth (#DestinE) User eXchange in Germany. The event brought together users and developers of DestinE, an EU initiative building a high-precision digital model of Earth ( accessible through the DestinE Platform here: https://bit.ly/3NKDIRe ) using advanced AI, vast datasets, and innovative Earth system models. Engaging with DestinE experts, SatCen explored Digital Twin capabilities for security-focused applications.
