Exciting news from Elomatic! 🌟 We are delighted to announce the appointment of Karoliina Joensuu as the Head of our newly established Industry business unit. The Industry unit is a fusion of two previous business units, thereby providing comprehensive services for process and energy sectors, as well as machinery and equipment design. With nearly two decades of experience in the energy sector, Joensuu brings a deep understanding of industry sustainability issues and a long track record in strategic partnership building. She specializes in steering energy systems towards carbon neutrality. "It's wonderful to join an organization that prioritizes sustainability in both its own and its customers' operations and has such an innovative culture as Elomatic," says Joensuu. Circular economy at its best: Finnish consortium's pioneering work in rare earth metal recovery ♻️ A Finnish consortium has developed a groundbreaking method for extracting rare earth metals (REEs) from electronic waste, with the support of Elomatic in process planning and organization. This innovative approach not only conserves vital natural resources but also significantly reduces Europe’s reliance on external sources, especially China. The EU relies heavily on external sources for critical metals, and establishing a traditional mine can take over 20 years. “We see that REEs can become a valuable source of recycling materials for global manufacturers, and our commercial-scale facility could potentially process up to 20% of Europe’s printed circuit board waste,” says Risto Ryymin, Development Manager at key consortium actor Alva. Advancing sustainability at Elomatic: A new milestone achieved! 🌟 We’re excited to share that we have completed a double materiality analysis, which will guide our future strategy, sustainability efforts, and reporting. This analysis is a crucial step in aligning our operations and projects with the pressing needs of our planet. To capture a wide range of stakeholder perspectives and expectations, we conducted a survey and interviews with key figures, in collaboration with Third Rock, a renowned sustainability consulting firm. The analysis covers Elomatic’s entire value chain, revealing that our customer projects offer greater potential for impact than our internal operations. Key insights: 🌱 Environmental impact: Our focus areas include driving the green transition, boosting resource efficiency, promoting circularity, and cutting emissions within our customers' operations. 👷 Social responsibility: Emphasis on safe and fair working conditions, workers' health, and equal treatment of workers across our workforce and value chain. 🤝 Good governance: Strengthening our corporate culture to foster long-lasting partnerships. And that's a wrap - This week marked the end of the Elomatic trainee program 🌟🎬 For our trainees, the last couple of months included networking, joint training sessions focused on working life skills, and, above all, developing practical expertise. At the closing event, the program was reviewed in good spirits and we were thrilled to hear that it was a great experience. The trainees enjoyed working on diverse projects, saw their responsibilities grow as the summer progressed, and appreciated being warmly welcomed into the work community.
