IEA EBC Annex 83 Positive Energy Districts
Research Services
International R&D collaboration on positive energy districts for future energy solutions in cities.
About us
Positive Energy Districts (PEDs) aim to create an area within the city that is capable of generating more energy than it consumes. Furthermore PEDs also support minimizing the impact on the centralized energy networks by offering options for increasing onsite load-matching and self-consumption, technologies for short and long term storages, and providing energy flexibility with smart control. The aim of Annex 83 is developing an in-depth definition of a PED and the technologies, planning tools and the decision-making and planning process related to positive energy districts. Experience and data to be used in the Annex will be gained from demonstration cases. Annex 83 is active 2020-2024.

📌 Happy to share new publication, "Towards Extensive Definition and Planning of Energy Resilience in Buildings in Cold Climate " is now available online. ✍ The article is authored by Hassam ur Rehman, Mohamed Hamdy and @Ala Hasan 🔗 Access the publication here: https://lnkd.in/dRS_kb4V 🏘 While nearly zero-energy buildings are becoming a new norm in many countries in the world, research is advancing towards #energyresilience #energyflexibility #energysecurity goals. However the concept, definition and indicators are not clearly defined and rare for cold regions. The review shows that most of the relevant focus is on #shortterm energy resilience, and the serious gap is related to #longterm resilience in the context of cold regions. ❓ Questions such as following need discussions: 1) How to define energy resilience? 2) What are the differences and similarities between energy resilience, energy flexibility, stability, robustness, reliability? 3) What are the indicators and metrics to measure the energy resilience performance? 4) What are the requirements and framework to analyze the energy resilience performance? 📑 This new research article that is published, aims to answer these key questions and set the scope and boundary conditions to analyze the energy resilient buildings in cold regions and countries. 💡 This article is published as a joint effort and collaboration between VTT (#Finland) and NTNU Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (#Norway). The mobility and exchange was funded by Research Council of Finland | Suomen Akatemia (#FinERB project). The mobility is important that provided a platform to share and cross-germinate the new research ideas with the experts around the world. Making it possible to replicate, scale the findings, network, create new knowledge for wider impact and give future research direction. 👏 Thanks and acknowledgement to Research Council of Finland | Suomen Akatemia on energy resilience (#FinERB) and energy flexibility (#FlexiB) at VTT for support. Thanks to the collaborator project @Research Center on Zero Emission Neighborhoods in Smart Cities (#FME #ZEN) at NTNU Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and IEA EBC Annex 83 Positive Energy Districts #impact #excellence #mobilityexchange #IEA_EBC International Energy Agency (IEA) @IEAEBC #Finland #Norway.
