Please mind the (safety) gap! As the shipping industry races to comply with tightening environmental regulations, our Executive Vice President for NAPA Safety Solutions, Esa Henttinen, highlights how maritime can tackle the emerging ‘safety gap’ between decarbonization ambition and seafarer welfare. Writing in SAFETY4SEA, Esa describes the immense potential digital tools have to simplify - not complicate - seafarer workload. Digitizing paper-based processes in a way that is intuitive and designed with seafarer feedback can transform life at sea by enhancing safety, institutionalizing training and easing regulatory reporting. In fact, gas shipping company Anthony Veder reported saving 2,000 hours of administrative workload per vessel annually, after adopting NAPA’s electronic logbook. At the same time, digitizing permit-to-work dramatically reduces the margin for human error by automating workflows and ensuring safety processes are rigorously adhered to during high-risk tasks. In a multi-fuel, multi-technology future, digital tools are here to help, and to put the ‘human element’ first. There’s a new era of digital twins taking shape which takes collaboration and innovation to new levels. Speaking recently to Wendy Laursen for the Maritime Reporter, Mikko Forss, Vice President of NAPA Design Solutions, and Joakim Heinolainen, Technical Consultant, NAPA Design, explained the game-changing potential of combining data from operational simulations with digital twins, based on the ship’s unique 3D model, to assess the impact of potential design decisions on fuel consumption and GHG emissions, stability parameters and hydrodynamic profile. These advanced simulation capabilities are unlocking the full potential of ship design’s digital transformation. From overcoming data silos and identifying potential challenges early, to increasing work efficiency. Find out more here: https://lnkd.in/eGahNkfk #Maritime #DigitalTwins #ShipDesign
