🔓 After 3 years' work, the 18 SCIRT Project partners gathered at ESTIA to bring the project to a close! 📢 Thank you to our partner Zalando for its great support in developing our solutions for large-scale shoe recycling. ⚡️ Together, we're putting the circular economy into action.
On Monday Alicja Jordan and I visited CETIA, a leading innovator focused on automated sorting and separation for end-of-life footwear and textiles. 🤯 The footwear challenge Footwear is a huge challenge for the fashion industry. A few numbers --> 24 billion pairs of shoes are made annually --> over 95% end up in landfill --> Shoes are inherently complex, with many materials, glues, stitches that make end of life exceptionally challenging ♻ The CETIA solution CETIA have developed 3 innovations to enable footwear separation as part of their Re_SHOES innovation program: --> SNATCH- separate soles by a tearing system, using a combination of heat and robotics --> SLICE - separate soles using a high pressure water jet --> SPLIT - sort soles based on composition, using NIR technology Together, these technologies will be critical to enabling an effective separating, sorting and recycling system for footwear 🤝 Zalando and CETIA Zalando has been a partner with CETIA since 2022, but this was the first visit to the facility. It was an amazing day, learning about their technology and seeing the circular economy in action. [MEET THE TEAM] Meet Anselme Angot, Our Robotic Engineer 🤙 👉 Anselme joins the CETIA R&D team to meet the challenges of automation in the textile recycling sector. 🦾 With a master's degree in Robotics and Automation from Ecole Supérieure des Technologies Industrielles Avancées and over 6 years' experience in the development and implementation of robotized machines in the aeronautics industry, Anselme brings us his expertise in design, prototyping, feasibility studies and technology transfer to customers. ➡️ What made you want to join the CETIA team? "The team is young, dynamic and ambitious! The projects we are working on respond to a concrete and major problem of preserving our environment." ➡️ What contribution would you like to make? “My experience in a demanding, high-performance sector enables me to be operational quickly and bring an industrial vision that goes beyond prototypes.” ➡️ A view on the challenges of textile recycling? “The quantity and diversity of the deposits to be processed in a short time means we must automate complex and repetitive tasks. These operations coupled with artificial intelligence will enable us to reach a milestone in our ability to recycle textiles.”
