👩🌾AGRA, in collaboration with CGIAR GENDER Impact Platform, is strengthening efforts to support women in agribusiness through the revitalized Value4Her platform. This initiative focuses on improving access to financial resources, sustainable farming practices, and job creation for women-led businesses, particularly in regions like Embu, Meru, and Laikipia. Women’s vital contributions across the agricultural value chain—from production to export—are driving innovation and job creation. However, challenges like limited market access and finance remain. AGRA’s strategy addresses these barriers, promoting inclusive finance and climate resilience and amplifying women's voices in policy dialogues to unlock more opportunities for growth. Hunger and severe malnutrition are surging in fragile and conflict-affected (FCA) settings, which often struggle to sustain resilient food, land, and water systems in the face of the climate crisis. Some 1.5 billion people live in FCA settings and face significant livelihood challenges, often compounded by conflict, climate change, unsustainable resource consumption, poor governance, weak social cohesion, and limited access to basic services. By 2030, an estimated two-thirds of the world’s extremely poor will live in FCA areas. Tackling these challenges and building stronger and more resilient food systems requires science, evidence, and innovation from an array of stakeholders. In this new #podcast series on Global Dispatches, ‘From Fragility to Stability, with CGIAR,’ Ismahane Elouafi, Andrew Harper, Arif Husain, and Katrina Kosec come together to discuss the critical importance of partnerships to generate evidence for bringing food systems from fragility to stability. 🎧 Listen to Global Dispatches wherever you get your podcasts. 🤝 World Food Programme UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) #FCMInitiative https://lnkd.in/dxyPdx4X

🔬Scientists in the Philippines have developed a new rice variety with a lower glycaemic index and higher protein content. This innovation aims to reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes, particularly in regions like Asia and Africa, where rice is a staple food. Using 380 seed samples, researchers from the International Rice Research Institute have created a diabetes-friendly option that could have a significant impact on global health. While some experts emphasize that ultra-processed foods and sugary drinks are the main contributors to the diabetes crisis, this rice variety offers a promising intervention for those managing their carbohydrate intake.
